If you have access to Mein o2, you can block the sim by yourself.
If you have a postpaid contract, call the hotline as soon as possible to block the SIM card in order to avoid "illegal" use of your card. Otherwise you have to pay for all usage (e.g. international calls, premium services, etc.) until the block of your sim card is activated.

Login with your phone number in Mein o2 and then click on this link: https://www.o2online.de/ecare-prepaid/sim-bestellen
Select “SIM-Karte verloren” (sim card lost) in the drop-down menu, check your personal details beneath an confirm the blocking and order of the new card.

But to comment it’s a pretty shitty system that I have to have 9,98 Euro credits in order to LOCK the SIM card.
I and everybody should have the option to LOCK the SIM card without needing to order a new SIM card.
This is a matter of emergency. I know for a fact the phone was pickpocketed from me by 3 drunk/drug infused homeless guys. I was conscious of it all when it happened. and I have already filed a report to the police.
So just as a feedback, O2 should allow their customer to LOCK the SIM card without having to order a new one. I read the old threads, 2-3 years ago you used to have this option. But now it’s gone. So kindly bring it back for the safety of others if not for me now. Thanks.
No, you have the possibility to block the card free of charge via o2 prepaid customer service: 0176-888 55 282
For the blocking, personal data will be requested from you (for example your personal customer identification number - Persönliche Kundenkennzahl - most of the prepaid customer don`t remember this PIN) and you may have to be lucky to speak to someone who speaks English. The customer hotline is also not available 24 hours a day, but there is an emergency hotline (if necessary)
I just described the easiest way to you. You don't have to talk to anyone and you also need a replacement card. Or not?

ich habe auch meine Prepaid-Sim verloren :(((( Haben sie kostenlos sim karte gegeben oder müssen wir 10 Euro dafür bezahlen. Für mich sieht es sehr seltsam aus, sie haben unnötigerweise 4 oder 5 Simkarten gegeben (ohne bessere Optionen - jede Sim hat 10 Euro Guthaben, während man eine neue Sim nimmt und ...). Gleichzeitig verlangen sie für den Ersatz eine Gebühr???

I need to ask you a few more things to help you understand. So you're saying that you got multiple sim cards when you took out your prepaid tariff? Where did you conclude this contract?
No, it's not common practice that you get multiple prepaid sim cards. Normally you get one prepaid SIM card. And you use it normally with the tariff/pack you can book.
Now you have lost your sim card from the number you are currently using, if I understand correctly?
