o2 HomeSpot Why I'm I forced to rent

First I want to say I have made the grand return to the English community forum

Now to something I was thinking about.

I’m contracted  to O2 my home M.

Part of the application process I failed to note I’m forced to rent the awful O2 Homespot

See my post under my previous community posts .

O2 Home spot end of the road

I thought the German government was about to pass a new consumer  law to stop  the likes of O2 hardwiring the LTE router so that the customer an only use the provide device?

As some of you may know O2 allows other routers but the list is very , very limited and restricted.

( unless things have changed ? )

My question is I’m I still forced the rent the O2 Homespot given  pending  law change?

Why wont   you let me return the O2 Homespot. and provide me with the FRITZ LTE 6820 ? Or let me send back the O2 Homespot without money penalty.

I am aware  some routers can’t be used because of the telephony  but I never use a phone.

Its annoying O2 locks out the better Fritz LTE router 6850. ( far as I’m  aware of the fact )

Locking and blocking devices should not be allowed .

I hope O2 is prevented by taking such measures in the future by the full force of the law.

Give your customers and future customers the full freedom of choice.:kissing_smiling_eyes:

If in the meantime things have changed let me know.

The law you are referring to from 2016 prohibits providers from insisting on the use of their own supplied routers and not providing the necessary access details for other compatible equipment. However, it does not prevent providers from including routers as part of a contract package. o2 allows you to use any compatible LTE router but dies not have to support them.

Hi @justcrosby ,

your o2 MyHome-Tariff does not have device restrictions implemented.

There is the technical challenge regarding VoLTE, of course. But apart from that, no barring of other devices is implemented.

You could also use try out the SIM in a smartphone, that´ll also work (even though the mobile aspect is not available).

There also reports of working connections with that specific Fritz-Box:

Except for the telefphone, of course.

If you have further questions or feedback, please let us know here :hugging:

@o2_Kurt

Do I have this correct. I can use the provided SIM card in ANY  LTE  router provided I don't need VoLTE ?

I don’t need the VoLTE only pure data connection.

What I don't understand  there is a post in the German forums ( compatible routers)  showing a selection  of outdate routers , from what I understand from you I can use any LTE router provided I don't require VoLTE.

Have I understood correctly ?

Hi @justcrosby ,

I can’t give you a guarantee that every device will work accordingly, but as I said:

There are no device barrings set for the o2 My Home LTE-Tariffs. If you don´t need to make calls, LTE-Devices which support o2 Germany will work most certainly with your My Home-SIM.

Reagarding the List: do you mean this one?

This list is for the o2 My Data Spot tariffs, the first tariffs to include the HomeSpot as primary device.

Viele Grüße,
Kurt
