Using own modem instead of O2 HomeBox

Hello,

As my German is not good I will ask my questions in English, apologize in advance for that.

I plan to use my own Modem Router instead of the O2 HomeBox 6441 I’m currently renting from O2.

Is the following scenario valid?

  1. I will reset the O2 HomeBox to factory defaults so that it will unregister my O2 credentials from the system.
  2. I will plug in my new Modem Router and use the credentials provided by O2 in order to setup the Internet connection.

My concern here is :

Do I need to do any additional setup on the new device or will it just work ‘Out of the Box’?

I’m afraid that if I do a factory reset to my O2 HomeBox and for some reason I cannot setup my new ASUS device correctly, I will lose the currently functional internet connection with O2 .

Please advise.

Thank you,

Adrian Muntean

Hi @schluej,

Thanks for you help with that, I was able to see that setting, the first time I missed it.

I will mark this thread as solved.

Moin Moin,

First let the homebox as it is.
you don’t have to do a rest.

If you will use a ASUs  You have to setup server parameters:

VPI 1

VCI 32

VLAN ID 7

Than you need the login name

Xxx@s93.bbi-o2.de

and password

The newest Ausus Software for the router.

And maybe there is an instruction how to setup from ASU’s. You could search in ‘this form for solution there auf some hard copy’s .

Hello @schluej ,

Thank you for sharing this information.

I will follow the instructions from the link you provided this evening after I get home from work.

I’ve bought the Modem Router device from Saturn store, it is Asus DSL-AC68VG, it is mentioned on the package box that it is compatible with all major German internet providers, O2 being among them.

One thing I need to clarify : Do I need to perform a ‘Firmware Upgrade’ ?

This is what I understand from your statement : “The newest Asus Software for the router.”.

Please confirm.

Thanks,

Adrian

If you could find a newer firmware you should use it.

You don’t need to perform a factory reset on the o2 Homebox. You can keep it as a backup device as it is.

Hi @o2_Marc,

I was able to make it work by setting the VLAN ID to 7, but I couldn’t find the other two settings mentioned above:

VPI 1

VCI 32

It would be nice if you have some input on where I could find them, if not then there is no problem.

I will mark this thread as completed a bit later.

Thanks,

Adrian
