How can I upgrade 02 Home from 3G to 4 or 5G

Hello. I have had an O2 at home router for just over a year. I realized today that in that time the base level has gone up from 3G to 4G or 5G depending on the household.

I have been trying to figure out how I can 'upgrade' to the faster speed, but I can't find a way to do this.

I spent €4 waiting on hold waiting for English help and when I went to local outlets to ask for help they told me they could only access my account if I had opened my account at their outlet?

I have read that 02 can perform this simple upgrade this remotely with a flip of a switch. Is that the case? I would love to have even a little bit faster. Thank You.

Hello @Kingharvest ,

all my Home contracts that run on LTE are using 4G. For the usage of 5G you need a specific router and of course there has to be 5G coverage in your area for you to receive this. 3G in general is not being used at all anymore.

Kind regards, Sven

Hello. thank you for your reply! This is all I have to go on. There does not seem to be any indication that there are any options to change this. Thanks

@Kingharvest You have an o2 Homespot which only supports 3G/4G per chipset in terms of hardware.  The 3G network has been switched off by o2 in Germany.

Thank you for your reply, I understand that 3G has been switched off in Germany.

Hello @Kingharvest ,

have you already checked if 5G is even avaiable at your location. We are still in the process of extending the coverage of our 5G network, as such there are still plenty of regions where it is not avaiable. You can check this yourself online. After that we’d have to see about your hardware and the currently used contract.

Kind regards, Sven

Hello. Thank you for your query. It looks like I do have access to 4G inside and out and limited access to 5G. Other than that all I can tell you for certain is that Germany no longer supports 3G. I hope this helps.

Hello @Kingharvest ,

is an upgrade to a HomeSpot 5G and a fitting contract something that you’d want to pursue if the 5G coverage at your address at this point is limited, with usage within a building probably being even further inhibited?

Kind regards, Sven

Hello. Thank you for the followup. I will leave as is for now. My only concern was that I was not able to connect to the highest speed available, which is 4G, but as it turns out the 3G network has been switched off by o2 in Germany.

Hello @Kingharvest ,

I hope we were able to help you, and if there is anything else then feel free to come and ask us.

Kind regards, Sven
