Can't use my phone with non-EU sim

I bought an S23 from O2 Germany about a year ago and have been using it with two German SIM cards since. I took a trip to the UAE last month, and I couldn't use my phone with a du SIM card. Everything I read says that I have to use my phone in Germany for one hour before I can use another SIM card. The du SIM card was activated and worked fine with my other phone. Is there any solution to unlock my phone?

Hi @Kianoosh,

all smartphones sold by o2 have neither a SIM lock nor a netlock. As a result, there is nothing you can unlock. All SIM cards should work.

So there must be another reason why this didn't work in your case.

Kind regards
Alex

Moin Moin,

you have to contact Samsung. Samsung is locking the phone (Region-Lock).

Hello @Kianoosh,

welcome to our o2 Community 🙂

Could you already check if your S23 has a region lock for UAE?

Best Regards,

Gerrit

Hello,

How can I check if my phone has a region lock for UAE? Why should a phone has a lock for one country?

Best,

Kianoosh

Hi @Kianoosh

welcome to our community. 🙂 Nice you join us here.

Where exactly did you purchase the phone? Did you take one of our company?

Greetings

Hi, I bought it from check24 (sparhandy) and have a contract with O2.

@Kianoosh,

well, if you purchase a bundle with a phone and a tariff,  it is up to Sparhandy to decide if there is a netlock on the phone. The cheaper the phone was to buy, the greater the probability that the device has a netlock. Usually the dealer should note on the packaging if there is a netlock.

Most mobile phone providers in Germany use a so-called net lock on cheap smartphones. This restricts the use of the phone to a specific network. This means you can at least use the SIM card of another provider. The only requirement is that the new tariff is implemented in the same mobile phone network.

Please get in touch with “sparhandy.de” to find our what applies to your device.

Greetz
