Hello Community,
Greetings!

I have an old Duo contract (currently O2 o) beside another o2 Free M (total 3 numbers). Since the Duo contract is very old, my SIM cards are not suitable for modern days (probably 14 years old and UMTS/GSM type, some sort of serial number begins with 608401…707).

So I was browsing O2 website to replace these old SIM cards. Once I choose “Ersatz SIM-Karte/eSIM” then it shows me 29,99 €, so for my two old SIM cards – total price is almost 60€, which I consider too much just to replace the old SIM cards. If I select “Zusätzliche SIM-Karte/eSIM” option then it shows no price information. But I’ve read somewhere in the community that we need to pay for it.

My questions are:
-How do I know if I need to pay for “Zusätzliche SIM-Karte” before I make an order?

-Some other provider offer free (without connection fees) SIM card (currently O2 has this offer too). So, what is the best option to replace my old O2 SIM cards?

Thank you in advance for your support.

Best wishes!

Hi!

For your old o2 sim cards (o2 Duo):

SIM cards with serial numbers starting with 8949226, 8849227 or 8849228 (or the short form 6,7 or 8 ) are supporting the latest technology and therefore o2 does not replace these SIM cards for free. If you need smaller sizes (nano, micro), you need to pay the fee.
If the smartphone supports the eSIM, then you can convert the existing SIM card into an eSIM free of charge.

The SIM cards for the o2 Free tariffs (o2 Free M) are modern SIM cards from the beginning.

Hi @ronu71

welcome to our English Community.

You are lucky that @tearsbeforecrying already gave you the correct information. Thanks a lot for that. :hugging:  Even though your sim-cards for your o2o´s are a bit older, we do not exchange them for free.

Do you have any technical problems with these cards?

Of course, the change from plastic to eSIM is free of charge.

If you have any further questions, just come back here. Just also have a look in the different areas of our Community.

Loving greetings,

Tobias
