I bought an O2 SIM card in Edeka on 11.07. I tried to activate it online, but the Postident video chat did not accept my foreign passport. The post office could not process the Postident coupon with my passport, either. I went to two O2 shops in Munich, one in Sendlinger Str. 7 and the other in Neuhauser Str. 45, but they told me that they cannot activate a SIM card that is not purchased in an O2 shop, and I should go to Edeka. I went to Edeka, but they said that they cannot activate the SIM card, and I cannot return it. After calling many times, I reached the customer service for prepaid (017688855282) on 13.07. The lady said that any O2 shop can activate an O2 SIM card, so I should go to an O2 shop. I asked for advice via O2 chat, and I was told that Videoident or Postident at the post office should accept my passport, so I should try that again. Again, Videoident did not accept my passport, and told me to go to the post office. If foreigners are not allowed to use any O2 SIM card purchased in a supermarket, there should be a warning next to the products. I would like to either activate my SIM card, or return the SIM card and have my money back. Any suggestions? Thank you.

What passport do you have? What reason were you given for them not accepting your passport? PostIdent, at least through the post office, should work with most passports that contain the information in the Latin alphabet, though I have heard of there being problems with Indian passports for some reason. I am also not sure whether it is true that the Shops can only activate SIMs bought there, but that may be an o2 policy.
If there is really no way for you to activate your SIM (which I find hard to believe) then of course you would be entitled to return it. However, I am not sure that Edeka have to let xyou return it to them, as it is not their fault that you cannot activate it, so please wait for a moderator to reply here and advise you on the procedure.

Hello @audreysu ,
you can activate your SIM card using the following link: Prepaid Easyregistration
Please note that we do require a German contact address, where you are reachable during your stay. This may also be the address of your hotel, of course.
Kind regards, Nico

Thank you for your reply. I have a Chinese passport, but the information is in English and Chinese in the passport. The PostIdent scanner in the post office cannot recognize my passport.
Thank you for your reply. I have registered online at https://freischalten.o2.de/. I do have an address in Germany. I have tried all possible ways, but neither PostIdent nor VideoIdent accepts my foreign passport.
Then the employee at the post office should just type in the details from your passport. Maybe try a different post office?
Hi @audreysu ,
I believe the trouble is that the SIM card cannot be activated as this is a start-up package that we don't offer anymore, that shouldn't even be in stock at any supermarket. Unfortunately we can't control if theystop selling these packets.
I recommend you go to a o2 shop and show them the SIM that you can't register. They should be able to give you a new SIM for 10 € and charge it with another 10 €.
Kind regards, Nico

Hi Nico, Thank you for your reply! When I went to the O2 shop, they just sold me another SIM card. Unfortunately, I don't need the old SIM card anymore. Can I still get 10€ for top-up if I show the old SIM card at an O2 shop?
