I’ve recently checked the O2 website to see if there is a lower supported bound for O2 HomeSpot plans (it works quite unstable at my case, regardless of a good LTE connection).

I found out there is a new 5G router for Hopespot possible. I wonder, if it is possible to get the older O2 HomeSpot router replaced with a new one. There are a number of known issues with the former one (you may find my posts for details), it is also not possible to try any other hardware (also discussed in a numerous threads on this forum).

Hi @jonnyzzz
The Home Spot is not a rental device. That means you pay for the router and after the payment it is yours.
If you want to have a 5G Ready Home Spot, you have to order it in our online portal and pay monthly. Just like you know it from your previous HomeSpot.

Hi @o2_Alina

Thank you. Is it possible to return the original router to you and get the money back? The 4G O2 HomeSpot router does not work stable and requires daily reboots. The problem is not fixed from February 2020.

Hi @jonnyzzz ,

You can only return the router within 14 days after receiving the goods. This would be a revocation.
If you already have the HomeSPot for more than 14 days, you can´t return it.

If you are worried that your Home Spot might be broken, you can initiate a repair order here >Klick<

Hi @o2_Alina

I’ve got the router from February by signing a contract in a shop. The software is the problem. You may just check this forum for reports on that, it’s not only me. And in that case, a daily reboot works as a workaround, it is sadly not the quality I’d like to pay for. It would be good to have the issues fixed, please.

For example:

Another issue is one cannot try other routers too, it is yet another problem with many affected customers, just check this forum, nothing is changed since March.

Do you really think, that this 5G router has a better firmware?

And it is a new Modell, so more problems with the firmware.

@Denner, well, you are about right, thanks.

I still have a hope the new device would be better (and I cannot you a known stable one anyways). It would definitely depend on the contractors that are involved in the 5G device manufacturing.

On one hand, it does not look to me that O2 can cope well with the older router support.

e.g. https://hilfe.o2online.de/o2-homespot-o2-my-data-spot-21/o2-homespot-das-neue-firmware-update-ist-hier-update-535313

On the other hand, I think it might be likely that device support is decaying. It is normal for the industry to expect 1.5 - 2 years of support. Sad story for customers, but can be so.

The only excuse, I’ve got the O2 Homespot device effectively free from O2. The final contract price did not change, I see a ~5EUR/Month payments for it and ~5EUR/month discount from the main Internet plan.

Should I know that before, I would never have paid even a 10EUR total price for the 4G O2 HomeSpot router (made by Askey). The new 5G device looks viable to try at no extra pay. I’m ok to report my findings as an exchange.

Did you check the selling price?!

you will never get it for free!

Hi @jonnyzzz ,

As much as I can understand your displeasure, I have explained to you above that it is not possible to exchange your current home spot for a 5G Ready Spot.

You are still free to send in the router for repair using the link I sent you above.

Thanks @o2_Alina, does O2 offer a replacement hardware for the repair times?

Hi @jonnyzzz ,

In that case, unfortunately not. I'm sorry.

Best, Alina
