Hello,

I just activated the high speed option and received a new router (o2 HomeBox 6441) which replaced my FritzBox 7270.

I am sorry to say this, but I am having a terrible user experience with it.

After logging in on the web panel and setting it up with the PIN, it was impossible to even change the SSID name or the password.

The router won't even save the configuration data (web browser displays an "invalid response" page...).

Pressing the Enable / Disable WLAN button on the web interface has no effect whatsoever.

The UI is oversimplified and as a power user I am really missing lots of features in it.

Long story short, I am very frustrated with this router (and in general, with the fact that o2 forces its customers to use subpar proprietary hardware, when any other router on the market could do the trick) so much that I am actually considering rescinding the option altogether, if not the whole contract.

It would be just great if I could keep using my FritzBox by configuring it with the right data, both for DSL and VoIP.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you!

Hi,

the DSL-Data you can get by Hotline or LiveChat support, or you wait here for a few days for an Moderator, but you don´t get the VoIP-Data.

Because the problem with saving the SSID or Passwort, test a different browser, sometimes the box has a problem with some browsers.

Only way to use a Fritzbox is to buy a 7490, only this one can can contact the server to get the voip-data, or you can get a 7490 form a friend for short time, wait until the box has get the data, save the profile an take the profile on youre 7270.

P.S.: execuse my bad english, hopefull it is understndable 😊

Stop! No chance!

Speed means VDSL - right?

The 7270 is a pure ADSL-box and not VDSL compatible.

btw - you can connect Homebox & 7270 with LAN A as IP client to have better WLAN

Hi,

sorry, i pobably have read incorrectly 😊. VoIP-Droide is right, is it VDSL there is no chance to use only the 7270.

Hello guys,

thank you so much for your replies, they're a big help indeed.

For starters, I had no clue about VDSL vs ADSL, so now I understand why I won't be able to keep using the 7270.

I just assumed it was just a matter of getting a faster speed on the same connection type.

That said, I'd still pick a FritzBox over the Homebox, so I am considering buying the 7490.

Is it really that simple to get it up and running?

Do I just need to contact the Hotline / LiveChat to have the DSL access data, and then will the VoIP be configured by itself when the FritzBox contacts the server?

I'm asking because I remember struggling to get this done with the 7270 on my previous DSL plan (...the struggle!!!), so I want to make sure things are as painless as possible before purchasing the 7490.

Thanks again for your support, much appreciated!

☺️

Hi,

maybe it is so simple, in 99 % the 7490 works.

First you can look, if you can get a 7490 from o2, because o2 do not support own hardware on connections.

If you don´t got the box by o2 you can buy a original (without branding like 1&1) 7490, for installation there are some steps importent:

1. Connect the Fritz box 7490 to the DSL

2. Select at Internet = > Access the Internet providers ' o2 DSL " and enter your Internet account information , remove the hook at  " Check Internet connection after taking over "  and transfer the data .

3. Now keep the Fritz box for 5 minutes at rest . The Fritz box to retrieve the VoIP access from o2 autoconfiguration server after connecting to the Internet .

4. If the 5 minute to have to see if the Fritz box automatically configures the phone numbers and they are registered . If this is not the case , please wite here again and post a screenshot where the event log of the Fritz box ( System = > Events ) .

Hey 🙂

...uhm, what do you mean exactly by "get a 7490 from o2"? I know there's the possibility to rent it for € 79,99 (well, it actually says "Vertraglich nicht zulassig" in my case...) but for that sum I might as well buy my own router and keep it.

Or did you mean that there is the possibility to exchange for my Homebox in some other way?

Bests!

Hi

i mean for rent, but if o2 say that you can´t get a 7490 for rent causd on youre contract you only can buy one on youre own.

There is no chance for exchange, sorry.
