I have an external router (TP-Link W8970) and it doesn't allow me to connect to internet. The technician came last Monday to my place and, after connecting a couple of cables and check some plugs, he said that I should have internet.

I'm able to enter in the config interface of the router and after following the setup instruction (VCI=1, VPI=32, pppoE), the router tries to reach internet, but there is no way.

My colleague, also with an O2 connection, checked yesterday my router and he can connect to internet without any problems.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi,

what is the name of your contract ? Wich contract your colleague has signed (if you know) ?

Greetz

Thanks for replying,

we both have DSL S Flex

Hi,

ok, it seems that the technican has put your connection at the wrong landline, for this only the o2 technical hotline 0800-5251378 (for free) may help you by order a new technican.

Please remeber that you must understand german because of the computer voice menu or you get help by a german speaking friend.

Thanks for replying once again,

if I go directly to an O2 shop in my city (Saarbrücken), could they ask for a new technician to come to my place and check the connection?

All the best

Please make sure your device is an Annex B device - for Germany. The model name should be "TD-W8970B"

Thanks for replying,

unfortunately there is no such a thing as "Annex B" on the config menu for the router. There is Annex A, A/L, but not B. My router is TP-Link W8970, not the one you suggest.

As I said before, my colleague just plug this very same router at his place and got it working without any troubles.

Was the test with your colleague in Germany? Perhaps your device supports Annex-J, but not Annex-B.

Your device is basically not designed for use in Germany and should not be sold here.

My colleague has the same contract, and therefore I guess, the same line as I should have. In my colleague's place (in Saarbrücken) the router works, in my place it doesn't.

In my opinion, there should be something wrong with my line and not with the router. Otherwise, the router wouldn't have worked in my friend's place neither.

Can you please name the last part of your O2 DSL internet user name? Is it @s92.bbi-o2.de or @s93.bbi-o2.de?

Absolutely! It's @s93.bbi-o2.de

Your connection is realized via VDSL2. Therefore, you need a device capable of VDSL2. The TP-Link W8790 does not support VDSL/VDSL2. There is nothing wrong with your connection, but with the device you have bought.

Apparently it's wrong advertised. Check it out: https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/td-w8970

I had it since 3-4 years ago and I didn't use since that time. If there is so much trouble, I'll try to get one from O2 in the shop.

It seems you have the TD-W8970 v3.

If you want to stick with TP-Link, check for support of VDSL vectoring.

A device for less than 61 EUR, you can also connect a phone:

TP-LINK Archer VR200v

I just want internet at home. I was thinking that maybe I could use that router I already had but apparently it's a bit annoying.

How can I get the router that O2 provides? If I go today to an O2 shop, will they have routers there?

If you want only internet at home, you could have ordered the router together with the connection.

The o2 shops sell mobile phones, but they do not rent DSL routers.

Now I know.

How can I get then one of those routers?

You can call customer service and ask to rent one.

Hi,

or  take a look at "mein o2" if it possible to order a router there maybe at option like "Weitere Optionen" or something else.
