How to set up an ASUS DSL-ac68u with o2 vdsl?

I have tried and absolutely failed to set up an alternative modem / router. I am going to post it here in case others have the same issue or someone is smart enough to spot a mistake ...

I can get the DSL to connect and DSL Log provides correct information on the connection ... it just will not give me an Internet connection!!
