02 homespot terrible connection

We have a o2 homespot device that currently cant even give me 5 mbps speed. I can barely video call on whatsapp and home office is not possible. On checking the nearest tower it does not show any faults or slow downs. I cant call anyone as they done speak English. We are looking for some support on how to make connection better ?

Hello @Amp_95 and welcome.

The RSRP-value looks fine so far, RSRQ on the other hand looks bad. Here are enough specialists who could help you, but some of them aren’t native English speakers and they don’t dare to answer in English.

There is a special forum for English speaking customers:

https://hilfe.o2online.de/english-o2-community-69

As I don’t mind to make any faults in English, I can try to help you. Did you place your router at or nearby a window? Did you try any other position to get better Signal (espacially RSRQ)? If router is placed directly to a window: Does RSRQ look better, if you open the window? Do you’ve got a balcony, where you can place the router on it? (Just for testing)  These are just some of the standard questions, so we can short communication so far and the experts can give any advice. As you receive Band 3 (1800 MHz) there should be sure a way to enhance the LTE-Signal via an special Antenna.

Hi @JoachimK. That is really kind of you to help out. My german is not very good, apologies for the inconvenience

My router is literally kept in the balcony since 2 days, and the numbers here in the screenshot are the best I could get after keeping it in an open space outside.

Hi @Amp_95 ,

is your balcony facing north or south?

The cell mentioned in your screenshot is to the north.

If you flat extends to the other side of the buildung, the one facing north, try placing the homespot there.

If you don´t have access to the northern sidem things might get a bit difficult.

The mentioned cell is the nearest cell in the are area, providing 800 MHz.

All the other stations are a bit further away.

You also can´t force the hardware to connect to a specific cell, which eliminates the option to simly switch to a different one :frowning2:

Viele Grüße,
Kurt

Hi @o2_Kurt,

My balcony faces South, I don't have access to North side of the building, and I am never getting the speed of more than 2mbps download, tried putting the homespot in every corner of my house to be honest.

Any possible solution?

Hi @Amp_95

okay, then it becomes difficult as you do not have access to the north.

Did you already take into consideration the suggestion of @JoachimK. to use an antenna?

Perhaps @JoachimK. or @Tom_ can help you further in this subject.

Loving greetings,

Tobias

Hello @o2_Tobias,

I am trying to get the maximum range by changing locations, I don't think Antenna would be an effective solution either, as the speed is absolutely terrible (even when I am keeping it in the best location possible). I am considering switching my network, I have high data and speed requirements because of my home office (of me and my partner as well).

Regards,

Amiya

@Amp_95

Hi Amiya, the radio mast you are connected in sends on the bands 3, 7 and 20 that means, (in order of appearance) 1800, 2600 and 800 MHz., so the router so far is not the problem. As you seem to live in Charlottenburg I guess you live in an overcrowded quarter where you have no chance, to place an antenna as high as possible, means on top of the building you live in. Band 7 (2600 MHz) is prefered in big cities, because the signal gets reflected so far, without having big loss on it’s way, means on the other side, an antenna would not be a good suggestion, but tis only my opinion.

So at least I don’t have any suggestions for you. Will you stay longer in Berlin or is this a limited Job you live for? If longer while, checkt out V-DSL connections.

Joachim
