Very poor network reception on O2 prepaid sim. Only get 2G

Hello,

I got a new O2 sim recently and the cellular reception in my apartment is terrible, so much so that I only ever get 2G data speeds. As for network coverage, I never get more than 2 out of 5 bars. The phone never switches to 4G which makes the internet unusable. This is unexpected because, I got the sim card after checking O2 coverage in my area on https://www.o2online.de/service/netzabdeckung/. I also checked if there is any temporary service outage on https://www.o2online.de/service/netzstoerung/?partnerId=SocialMedia&medium=socialpost&campaignName=CM-Commerce
But there are no reported problems. I have tried changing the mobile network mode settings on phone to LTE and 3G only. but that didn’t work either. Please help. My location is Falkenweg, 72076 Tubingen.

Thanks

Shashank

Hi @Don Wenk

Welcome to our o2 community.

When checking your address everything looks fine, so maybe its your appartment which is interfering.

Could you please tell us if the connection is better when you are outdoor infront of your house?

When standing infront of your house and checking for network coverage with you phone, is there a 4G LTE signal or just 2G GPRS / EDGE?

Best Regards Matze

Yes, the connection is better when I go outdoor and I start getting 4G LTEspeeds, so it must be issue with the house? How can I fix this then?

Hi @Don Wenk

thanks for your reply. Good that you receive at least outside your house LTE-signal.

Well, in your case the house itself has probably thick walls or some metal strings or insulations are interfering.

Do you have the possibility of WLAN-calling at home? Even if you do not have much mobile connection in your house, WLAN-calling is possible if you have access to WLAN at home. Please find here more information about this subject: WLAN-calling at o2

Concerning the use of mobile internet, I would suggest to you as an alternative to use DSL at home. Please check here your possibilities for DSL: DSL-availability

I hope I could already help you with this suggestion.

Loving greetings,

Tobias
