leaving germany - can i cancel contract and keep number on pre-pay?

Hello,

I'm planning to leave Germany for 3 years as of September 2022, I would like to keep my number and cancel my contract.

What do I need to do to keep it as a prepay number?

Also I was in the USA last week, and my sim was not connecting for any roaming, this hasn't happened to me in any other country before..can you please look into it?

Thanks a lot

Hi @Indianinfrankfurt and welcome on bo(a)rd.

AS FAR AS I KNOW, there is no need to cancel any prepaid contract, unless you want to port your number to a US american provider. As I understand you that far, you want to keep your number for maybe being availble, when you’re back in Germany, right?

As mentioned you don’t need to cancel any prepaid-tariff. Just watch out to make a call or send a message inbetween 6 months via that number just to avoid your number will be deactivated and given free for other users. (After 6 months the SIM will be deactivated, after further time completely shut off without being reactivateable)

Please forgive my English. For further questions please refer to:

@JoachimK. He wants to cancel a postpaid contract and convert it to a prepaid SIM.

@Indianinfrankfurt You would need to get a new prepaid SIM (with o2 or another provider), port the number from the contract to the prepaid card and then request a goodwill early termination of the contract. That is only possible if you deregister in Germany.

@JoachimK. has given you tips on how to avoid losing the number.
