Freezing account while abroad

I will be leaving Germany for half a year (January-June 2020) and I am wondering if I could ask O2 to freeze my account while I am abroad as I am not gonna be able to use the service at all.

Is this even feasible? I left for half a year few years ago and they changed my tariff to the most basic one. During that period, I needed the sms service working for online banking transactions. This time, I wont need the service at all.

I hope someone could help.

Hi @deeeeeeeee,

welcome to the o2 community! :relaxed:

It is possible to freeze your account for a certain amount of time, yet there are some things to keep in mind in order for it to be successful:

  • your contract needs to have a duration of 24 months and needs to be active for at least 6 months,
  • the freeze will last for at least 2 and not more than 12 months within the 24 months period,
  • you have a legit and active German bank account with a direct debit mandate,
  • all bills are paid in full, 😉
  • and the freeze is requested at least 2 weeks before it’s supposed to begin.

You should add a legal confirmation (like a student enrollment confirmation or employment contract).

If these requirements are met, you can request the freeze of your account directly in your Mein o2 App (look for the catchy German word “Vertragsstilllegung”) or use this form instead.

Your contract will be charged with a one-time fee of 29,99 EUR and then be frozen for the length of time you requested.

When your contract is reactivated, its running time will be extended for the length it has been frozen before.

Best regards,
Jan.
