Hello,

I am currently travelling within the EU (France) with my German O2 phone.

I am trying to send an (urgent) SMS to a French contact.

I keep on getting error 38 message, and the SMS cannot be sent.

Note : I have 4g reception, I have tried with and without wifi.

I have reset all the settings of mobile data.

Can someone please help me (as it is impossible to reach someone from O2)?

Thanks a lot in advance for your support!

Hello @Pantagruel and welcome to the community

do you use a multicard? If so, you have to check your settings in the o2 app with which SIM card you want to send the SMS.

You can also look it up here. Sorry, is only in German.

Or make this
1. Open the o2 app
2. than open menu/Options
3. Tariff & SIM
4. SIM & contract
5. Call & SMS settings

There you make your selection for which number you want to receive SMS.

I hope that the English menu/Options is the same way as in German!

Hello @TMoney,

Thanks a lot for the prompt feedback!

I am using only one SIM card...

For info, I can also receive SMS.

I have just tried again, and it is now working.

Same location, same settings. Nothing has changed.

It would be interesting to get a feedback from O2, what does error 38 mean.

I will ask them whenever I am able to reach them on the phone.

Sorry for the disturbance, this subject is now closed.

Thanks again for your support!

Hi @Pantagruel ,

would you mind trying a different roaming partner?

You can choose between tje different providers by switching the celluar network (provider) to manual.

You can choose between:

Bouygues Telecom
Free Mobile
Orange France (former Itineris)
SFR (Cegetel)

You’d also try switching off LTE, if you Phone allows that setting.

Thanks for your tip, TMoney!

Viele Grüße,
Kurt
