That depends on whether o2 sells the phone without a mobile contract, which is often not the case with new releases. Also it is often cheaper overall to buy the phone at the same time as the tariff because you can get a discount.

Today I signed up to the Unlimited Max tariff at the O2  shop in Stuttgart, the tariff signing up part was pretty simple, but then I asked the o2 staff member if I should order the S22 Ultra online when the pre orders start after 9th Feb, she then said I should order the phone via her. She told me if I order online, O2 will include a contract to the order. But isn't this incorrect, if I order the phone online without contact, then all I have to pay is the monthly installments over 24 months?

Did O2 change their policy? Cos the phone I'm using now (Samsung Galaxy Note 10+) was bought without a contract in 2019 straight after pre orders started.

I already got discount on the tariff via friends and family, but usually newly released phones are not discounted if you combine with tariff, only the tariff is.

Phones are never discounted, but you are correct, the discount for the phone purchase is applied to the tariff.

It depends on the phone whether it can be purchased  separately, there is no general policy I am aware of.

With us, you can either order a mobile phone without a tariff or with a tariff, which can be a contract extension or a new contract.
The mobile phone always costs the same. However, there may be a discount on the tariff if it is renewed or ordered at the same time.
Some mobile phones are not available for purchase on their own, but this is indicated.
