Welcome back to the 80s!

HI all, so, I wrote a post before where I could not access to some of the webpage features, it looks like o2 for some reason did not have my bank info or something like that and I’ve been receaving these e-mails from o2 redirecting me to this webpage, but everytime I tried there was an error going on and could not fill the information. By the way I got no help in return.

So basically, O2, which is from TELEFONICA, and also an INTERNET PROVIDER, sent me a letter with a document which I should fill and send…..via FAX.

A FAX, yes, non ironically in 2021 and amid of a lockdown.

So I don’t want this to be taken as an attack or something, because it’s been somewhat hillarious, this provider has a non working webpage and asks me to send a FAX on the internet era.

It’s the first fax I’ve sent in my almost 28 years of existence on this world, and hey at least it’s hilarious.

My point is, this webpage needs some hotfixes, a new structure and design, also, o2 should have more flexibility when it comes to burocracy.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯   Kind regards.

Germany is one of the very few countries that still uses faxes. Historically the fax predates the internet. It was the most secure method to exchange data in real time. The internet came along, However with time the internet became riddle with exploits and emails can be intercepted. One then has to  use Encrypt end to end emails which not every one is set up for either because the email provider cant handle Encrypted emails or the end user doesn't know to to send and receive Encrypted emails. Germany by its very culture has strong connection to security and the protection of data. It can make  sending of data more “ old fashioned” However the Fax system is more secure and more importantly it will work when the internet goes down per example a state of emergency is declared . Hospitals and doctors use the fax nearly every time to send patient notes, blood test results and x-ray results. This means information is ready available. Companies relay on faxes  for orders, this means sensitive data is kept off the internet. Regards some web sites not working in Germany this is a problem. As regards the internet and G5 Mobile, fibre to the home. Germany is backwards . Germans by nature dislike change, the are weary about adopting new Technology.  The government isn't helping in this respect. The Digital infrastructure is owned by just 3 players. Competition in the internet and Telecommunications market is hindered by red tape and other blocks along the way. I lived in England the county was way ahead of Germany with Technology and the rebuilding of the Fibre Highway. More providers are in England and the price to data ratio is very cheap.

Hello @3dfer,

sometimes, even seemingly ancient technology has its raison d’etre :-)

Did everything work out fine and were you able to send the SEPA mandate to us? Thanks to @ukguy for him sheding some light on why fax service has still such a high usage here in germany :-)

Regards,

Lars
