Hi,

My bills since August’25 have increased by about 6 euros. I am trying to understand why. Here is a copy-paste of an old bill and the new bill.

---- old bill ----

Grundgebühren 40,98 € Vergünstigungen / Guthaben -19,99 € Grundgebühren 36,99 € Vergünstigungen / Guthaben -17,00 € Internet & Festnetz Grundgebühren 44,98 € Vergünstigungen / Guthaben -15,99 € Rechnungsbetrag (davon enthaltene MwSt. 11,17 €) 69,97 € Zu zahlender Betrag 69,97 €

---- new bill ----

Grundgebühren 44,98 € Vergünstigungen / Guthaben -20,00 € Grundgebühren 39,99 € Verbindungen & Services 1,16 € Vergünstigungen / Guthaben -20,00 € Internet & Festnetz Grundgebühren 44,98 € Vergünstigungen / Guthaben -14,99 € Rechnungsbetrag (davon enthaltene MwSt. 12,15 €) 76,12 € Zu zahlender Betrag 76,12 €

I went to an O2 shop in August and the customer service representative convinced me to renew my contract for 2 years. I asked her specifically if my bill would increase. She told me, it would be not for the next 2 years. But, looks like it has!! And now I am paying about 6 euros more every month.

Please could you explain this.

Best wishes,

To assess this, post your contract summary.

Delete your phone number.

This is what a contract summary looks like.

HI @AAJ

Welcome back to our o2 community, we're glad to have you back \o/

In June, you made some minor changes to your tariffs, which resulted in a slight change to your basic fee. The easiest way to see this is to download a bill from May and one from August and compare them to see the difference.

Kind regards and many thanks Bumer for the fine support.

Matze

@o2_Matze This is surprising. Which “minor” changes did I make? I don’t recall making any changes. The only change I can recall is the extension of the contract.

Have you compared the invoices?

Have you compared the invoices?

Bumer, you can see the future, that's exactly what I wanted to write 😄

I posted the comparison above and again below,

---- old bill ----

Grundgebühren 40,98 € Vergünstigungen / Guthaben -19,99 € Grundgebühren 36,99 € Vergünstigungen / Guthaben -17,00 € Internet & Festnetz Grundgebühren 44,98 € Vergünstigungen / Guthaben -15,99 € Rechnungsbetrag (davon enthaltene MwSt. 11,17 €) 69,97 € Zu zahlender Betrag 69,97 €

---- new bill ----

Grundgebühren 44,98 € Vergünstigungen / Guthaben -20,00 € Grundgebühren 39,99 € Verbindungen & Services 1,16 € Vergünstigungen / Guthaben -20,00 € Internet & Festnetz Grundgebühren 44,98 € Vergünstigungen / Guthaben -14,99 € Rechnungsbetrag (davon enthaltene MwSt. 12,15 €) 76,12 € Zu zahlender Betrag 76,12 €

What seems to have changed is the Grundgebühren (40.98 to 44.98) and Grundgebühren (36.99 to 39.99). I am trying to understand why these have changed. They haven’t changed in the last 4-5 years! So, this is an extraordinary situation.

@AAJ Please take a closer look at the name of the tariffs; there has been a change from ‘Free’ to ‘Mobile’ because you changed the tariff of your mobile phone contract as part of the contract extension.

That is cheeky on the part of the customer service representative in the O2 store. I had very pointedly asked her if my total invoice amount will change and she had said no, not once but repeatedly. There cannot be any confusion about it either in her mind or mine. We have gone over it multiple times. Lying to customers to make them sign up for more expensive contracts is not fair. Seems like I am stuck with this “change” that was forced upon me and now have to shell out 72 euros more every year. I wonder if I can lodge a complaint somewhere official. Some kind of consumer forum. A few years ago, O2 unilaterally decided to sign me up for a Music Packet and charge me 15-odd euros every month. When I asked them for evidence that could say that I signed up for it, none was forthcoming. Many other consumers had similar experience.

@o2_Matze I would like to end my contract with O2. I have had enough. How can I do this!

@AAJ  It's true that your contract is now a little more expensive, but your tariff now includes much more and is much better than your old tariff. Before you rush into cancelling your contract, please take another look at your tariff details – your contract is now much more valuable than before.

If you still want to cancel your tariff, you can do so using the cancellation button on our website.

Kind regards Matze

@o2_Matze Thank you for pointing it out. I believe the point is not that my tariff is better. The decision to make it better for me was made under false pretence. I was happy with my tariff for close to 5 years without any problems and would have probably continued for another 5 without any issues. Lying to customers for upselling products is definitely not the way to do it.

And it looks like cancellation is also not free and will invite charges. Oh what the hell. I will be sure to promote O2 to family and friends with these stories.

@AAJ  I am sure that my colleagues in the shop did not want to mislead you, but assumed that they were doing you a favour by offering you a tariff that is 5% more expensive but includes 200% more.
(Please do not hold me to the exact percentages; mathematics has never been my strongest subject, but I am sure you understand what I am trying to say.)

But to give you an example: with your old tariff, you had 4GB, and with your new tariff, you have over 100GB per month.

And it looks like cancellation is also not free and will invite charges

Cancellation is always possible free of charge at the end of the term, but unfortunately not before.

@o2_Matze Thanks again for clarification. I understand what you are trying to say. But, there can be no confusion about my conversation. I must have asked her 10 times if my tariff will change. And she said No. In any case, we can close this thread.

@AAJ I am very sorry, I wish we could have found a solution together.
If you wish, we can still file a complaint, but I suspect that it will not change the contractual situation, as the whole thing took place in the summer.
