Hi,

I recently moved to Germany and I would like to purchase Mobile with Contract. Apparently I have some confusion regarding on how to proceed.

Firstly I do not have a surname in my Passport, so how should I apply as in my Meldebestätigung they just add ‘+’ in place of surname and in my visa they repeated my First name.

Secondly I have received a Visa lasting 1 year, would that suffice for purchasing a Mobile with Contract or do I need a Residence permit card ?

Thanks in advance

Hallo @Entropy017,
We are pleased that you have contacted us with your question. What kind of identity document do you have? Have you already reported to the o2 shop with your ID card? They might be able to help you.
Kind Regards, Bianca

Hi,

I have a Passport with Visa ( that is valid for 1 year), No I have not been to O2 shop because I was hoping to buy it online.

Hallo@o2_Bianca ,

I had a conversation with someone at the O2 shop, and they informed me that using a passport as identification is acceptable. However, they were unable to assist me due to the absence of a surname in my passport. I would appreciate your guidance on how to address this issue.

Hello @Entropy017 ,

I don’t think there is ultimately a clean solution to this, as our databank is setup around a first and last name being in place. You could do it like it is done with your visa and double up on your name for both when you order online.

Best regards, Sven

Hello @o2_Sven ,

Is it possible to substitute it with an alphabet or a special character?

I really do not want to repeat my Entire name twice as it is long and that to reflect on the documentation.

Thanks and Regards

Do you have several first names? You only need to enter the first one. You could also try entering just the first letter but the system probably won't accept it because it is too short to be a 'valid' surname. This is a problem you are likely to encounter a lot with online forms.

@bs0 Yes I do, This is why the situation is really confusing for me. I just want to know would this be complicated even further in the future.

@Entropy017 not an easy situation at all. 😅

Maybe the tip from bs0 will help here by not using all first names, but only the first?

Kind regards

Steffen

@o2_Steffen Would it affect the sim card activation.?

As it wouldn't match the surname in the passport.

Hey @Entropy017,

It is important that your first name and surname match. If there are several names in between, this is not so important, as bs0 has already written.
The important thing is that they can be matched with the ID documents.

Greetings,
Flo

Hi @o2_Flo,

In my situation, which of the two options are you recommending? For instance:

  1. First name: A B C Surname: A
  2. First name: A B C Surname: A B C

The second format is the one featured on my visa.

Thanks and Regards

Hey @Entropy017,

I would say you stick with the version that fits your documents. It should be the same as in your official documents. Then there shouldn't be any problems.

Greetings,
Flo
