O2 sim card cannot be activated with German Residence permit or Indian passport

I brought O2 prepaid sim card online 1 week ago. I tried to activate through Video-Ident and they did not accept my Indian Passport (also my German residence Permit was not sufficient) and asked me to approach the Deutsche Post. The Deutsche Post person tried to identify my passport but the machine did not accept it. Then I tried the two O2 shops in zähringerplatz  and kanzleistrasse konstanz and they said they cannot activate a sim card that is bought online. They also told to buy a SIM card from their shop which they could activate and that cost 25 Euros compared to the 10 Euro card I have ordered online !

So as an Indian in Germany I cannot identify myself and use the O2 sim card !

Hi!

If your passport is classified as "uncertain" for Post- or Video-Ident, then o2 can not help.
Did you also show your eAT (elektronischer Aufenthaltstitel = electronic residence permit) at the post office? If the card says "Dient als Passersatz = Serves as a passport replacement" and the eID has not been deactivated, the eAT should work as well.
It is correct that the o2 shops can not activate an o2 Freikarte and that a starter pack costs 10 euros (10 Euro starting balance included) and if you want to get the 150 GB gift, you have to charge 15 euros again (as with the o2 Freikarte)
Saturn and Mediamarkt offer some promotions, where the starter pack is offered at half price. There is also the eAT accepted.

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I have shown the  Aufenthaltstitel (but it donot say : Dient als Passersatz) .It was also not accepted by the Deutsche Post .

Is it an eAT? Then it should work. Unfortunately the software Deutsche Post uses to read the information on the card is very restrictive and if it doesn’t work the staff have no way of entering the data manually any more.

The text “Dient als Passersatz” is only relevant if you use it as a travel document to cross a border.

The Deutsche Post staff told me, that the remark "Dient als Passersatz" is necessary. Funny...

Hi @andreasmax,

if no identification works, please buy a new prepaid-card in one of our o2 shops.

Please send us the invoice of your former prepaid-card. You will then get a credit on your new card that you activated in the o2 shop.

Please send the invoice of your former prepaid-card that you bought online to the following address:

Telefónica Germany GmbH & Co. OHG, Kundenbetreuung, 90345 Nürnberg.

Please reply here again as soon as you have sent the invoice to the above mentioned address.

Loving greetings,

Tobias
