Hi,

I signed up for an O2 contract in Düsseldorf for my mobile phone last week and the representative even gave me a 2nd SIM card for free (in the same price). I opted for a plan with monthly 25,99 rental after discount). Yesterday I got received an invoice for 82 EUR (!!). When I rushed to the store they told me it’s a one-time connection fee (4O EUR each for the 2 Sim cards). I asked why they didn't inform me at the time of signing the contract, and of course they had no answer. They just said “you have to pay” with a straight face. Do you think it’s an ethical business practice from O2? You have hidden costs and you don't even inform the customer while signing the contract?

I don’t even know if it’s written in my contract. Maybe I wouldn’t have opted for the 2nd SIM card if I knew about this. Maybe I wouldn’t have opted for O2 at all! And now I’m stuck for 2 years with no way out. And the worst part is that they will deduct the money just after 15 days from the start of the contract. I just arrived in Germany and I get this shock.

Please help get my money back!

Hello @Sanyal :relaxed:

welcome to our community.

Did you get a second sim-card for your existing contract, for example to surf with a tablet (same phone number) or is it an addtional card with another, separate contract with a new phone number in your bill?

In case it’s another contract, did you speak with the employees in the shop because of this issue? Unfortunately there is no right of withdrawal within 14 days, like an online order.

Best regards,

Michi

Hi,

I got a second SIM card with a different phone number, but with the same contract. The person in the O2 shop basically gave me a 2nd SIM card for free (!) while I was signing the contract. At least this is what he told me, that there is no additional cost for the 2nd SIM card. Speaking to the employees after getting the 82 EUR bill did not yield any results because they said “This is how it is in Germany, you have to pay and you can’t do anything about it”.

My objection is regarding the lack of transparency while signing the contract, just because I don’t know the German rules, O2 should not hide any information from me as a customer. You can’t expect me (an Auslander) to know that one has to pay a one-time fee of 40 EUR per SIM card in Germany, if you don’t mention it while pitching the product. This was the outrageous part.

I hope you can do something about it unlike the O2 store employees!

Dear @Sanyal ,

if you get a SIM card with a different mobile phone number, it is always another additional contract.
A so-called Multicard, which you can book for example free of charge with our Boosttarifs, always has the same phone number as the main card.
This additional contract also has additional monthly costs and a duration of 24 months. It can be cancelled after the 24 months.
You have also received an email with information about the costs and the duration of this additional contract.
We can’t help you with a store contract, store contracts do not have a cancellation period like @o2_Michi already wrote above, because you have signed the contract in the store and also in the store itself you have the possibility to look through the contract you signed.
If you have any complaints about a store contract you can contact the respective store.

Kind regards,

Andrea

Hello Andrea,

The additional contract, what you’re referring to, was discounted such that both the contracts together cost 24,99 EUR per month, i.e. the same rental fee as a single contract.

Could you please tell me where in the contract is the clause for one-time connection fee (Einmalliger Anschlusspreis)? I read the contract again but could not find it. I’ve spoken to many people, some of them were charged this fee, some of the were not charged, and some others were refunded afterwards. Could you tell me what kind of practice is this? What exactly is the problem with O2?

It is not o2 it is an o2 shop with o2 label. They are independent contractors.

Hi @Sanyal

it is page 2 of your contract. Check this:
