Fast connection but video telephony is unstable

Benutzerebene 1

This is a copy of Schnelle Verbindung aber Videotelefonie nicht möglich topic, but here, in English community.

Today had same problem with Google Meet and Bluejeans (video chat software) -- strong lags during calls, I almost cannot understand anything. The more participants in the call, the worse it gets. Others could hear me pretty well, which proves that the problem exists only for download traffic.

I measured the speed (with Fast.com) during the call:

Its quite good (both upload and download). Just for the note: the problem persists every single day from the time I have moved to the new address. I have chosen the best place for the router with the best signal reception.

For the ticket: the time of my video session was 10:00-10:25, approximately 7 participants in the call.

I would be grateful if someone from support could create a ticket on my behalf (maybe @o2_Matze)? The reason I’m asking is because I almost does not speak German, so describing the problem would be quite painful. Also, a reference to a known problem might help and I’m not sure the ticket will be properly created based on the info from the voice call to hotline.

I would be also applying for contract cancelation due to tech issues, I would be grateful for some help here (example of the application etc). I have a O2 DSL option on my address, was thinking if switching from LTE to DSL might be possible instead of full contract termination.

Anyway, I would appreciate any help.

Thank you,

Best, Igor

In contrast to your speedtest I am facing a high load value. It's always over 500msec and rises easily to 1.2sec. This high load value came in addition to the main problem: video confernecing and (for me) cloud gaming. So every scenario depending on udp and small latency.

Yep, I measured ping while me wife was having a Zoom call, and this is quite interesting. Quite regular delay and probably UDP packet drop (my assumption). Looks like shaping in action.

@nielseabap your load value, this is interesting. Does it happen only during gaming/video, or all the time?

@o2_Tobias@o2_Solveig@o2_Maria@o2_Andrea  sorry for tagging, I have seen you are active in English community. Would you mind helping me with switching to DSL? I’m keen to pay the same amount, so O2 won’t loose any money, just make the client happier :)

Unfortunately I have this high load all the time.

Measured the packet loss rate just right now during the video call.

Hi yarimmer,

I don't aspect your are measuring packet loss of your current video session. The tool measures a dedicated session to a Server in the US or Australia. The pakets received from this specific server is measures and rated.

I get those measurements at any time useing this tool. Whether I am in a video meeting or doing nothing except that test. I also have to select Zoom or GeForce test settings to simulate my usage behavior. But it's always bad the same way of the screen captured one.

This is also during the call. This is coming straight from the router: It shows that the video conferencing software consumes at max 1Mbit downlink, and my download speed is in 10-50Mbit range.

My usual packet loss is around 20% (which is still a lot) and during the video call it raises up to 40% sometimes. I kinda assume the the traffic shaping is applied not to the connection but the whole traffic from IP. Might be wrong here and this is just an occasion.

Nevertheless, its a shame. And I am unable to understand, why fixing takes soooooo long.

Just to note here as well: it looks like the tech team have provided a fix for the problem. I reported in the main thread that today the problem disappeared and the video conferencing was working well.

So, I guess at this point this can be closed. But lets keep an eye on that.

Alright - the topic can be closed. O2 provided a fix.

Hello @nielseabap and @yarimmer i am glad that the issue is solved. So is everything okay now?

Kind regards, Ines.
