Today I was logging into an app that send verification code on phone no via sms but can not receive text. However i can text and my friends are receiving them but I can not receive when they reply . I am talking about normal sms not imessage.
however iMessage works fine

I agree with Bumer's question, do you have multicards (several SIM cards for the same phone number) with your contract?
If yes - then the SMS reception seems to be active on another SIM card.
You can easily check this online in your multicard settings and make changes.

Was it really because of multicards? Please tell us how you were able to solve your problem and whether Bumers hint with the multicards was correct.
