Calling a EU number while being Abroad (having a contract with O2 Germany)

Hi there,

i will place it as an example because for me the subject is quite confusing.

Let’s say you have a contact with O2 Germany (including EU-Roaming) and you’re traveling to Greece.
In your tariff you have all flat - mobile and landline numbers.

Can you call Greek mobile and Landline numbers while being in Greece without extra charges?

Cheers,
Orestis

Hi @Orestis_86 ,

@der Giuseppe described it pretty good.

Picking up on you example:

Orestis_86 schrieb:

As i mentioned is an “EU Roaming included” tariff and let’s say it’s the O2 free M with no additional international options active.
Can this user call (example) Dutch numbers - mobile and landline - for free, while being either in Germany (No), either in the Netherlands? (yes)

Calls from Germany to a dutch number don’t fall under the EU-Regulation for roaming, because you’re not roaming, in this specific example.

Call from the Netherlands to a dutch landline or Cell are free in the mentioned tariff configuration (payed hotline and national 0800-services excluded, of course).

Best regards,
Kurt

Hello @Orestis_86,

depending on which tariff you are currently using and which international option is active, you can make free calls in world zone 1 (which also includes Greece as an EU member state) within the respective country of travel and to Germany. However, you cannot make calls from Greece to other countries. In each case, as I said, only in the country in which you are currently staying.

For further information in English you can check our FAQ about that topic which you can find here:

Kind regards

Hi Jessica, thanks for your answer.
My intension here was though, that somebody can answer with a clear yes or no :)

@Orestis_86

Hi there, With your tariff you can make free calls in Germany, send SMS (if you have a flat rate) and use mobile data. For example, if you are in Greece or the Netherlands, you can of course call within the country, from there to Germany and to WZ1 (EU). Assuming that you have Roaming Basic 2018 as a country option, you can also make calls from Greece to Holland, for example, free of charge, provided that your tariff is available. (Roaming like at Home) What is always charged, however, are, for example, phone calls and SMS from Germany to other countries, i.e. also, for example, from Germany to other EU countries. I hope to have contributed to the final resolution.

Regards

Hello

I had a question. (calling from Germany)
will i be charged if I call the Netherlands number. Who is in Abu Dhabi ?

if yes ! How much I will be charged?

As my contract includes EU Roaming free and can call any country in Europe.

Hello @Okayme ,

if you call someone that is in another country, while you are here in Germany, than that does not fall under roaming and you’ll have to pay for that call. The amount will depend on what contract you have with us, but generally I’d expect it to be 1,19€ per Minute. You can also check the pricelist concerning this.

Kind regards, Sven

@o2_Sven like Sven Said, roaming means that you are outside Germany.

if you want to call from Germany to other country’s, check the Fon Packages you can book inside the Meino2 app

If you are in France, you make calls from France to a French number while you’re on EU roaming, are these payable?

no, they cost the same as the domestic tariff. If you have a flat rate, it's free except for special numbers.

Your O2 colleague who just called me and said that it’s payable. I got a shock because he said that it’s not covered EU roaming. I know it’s wrong.

I have a flat rate.
O2 M plan.

I was overcharged by O2 as I live the border in France. It didn’t swap over to roaming mode. Can you send me a link of where I can find this information? As a result, I was charged. I live in France near the border to Germany.

I don't have any o2 colleagues. If you were logged into the German network at the time of the call, the calculation is correct. It is only free if you are on the French network

I live near the border and it didn’t switch to the French network. I should get the refund from the billing team

You have to choose the right network yourself by manually selecting the network. Mobile networks have no physical boundaries.

Hello @skr040792,
i'm sorry that the charges for using the French mobile network have annoyed you. The calculation of the charges is correct. When you log on to the French network, you will be informed by text message and will also receive information on the costs incurred. You have the option of logging back into the German mobile network via manual network selection.
Kind Regards, Bianca
