Hello,

Another interesting scenario, Since over a week now there are issues with one of the base stations providing service for my location. O2 is aware of the issue but for some reason not able to solve the issue. The result, for more than a week not there is no internet and mobile connection sucks. 

Amazing to say, but what surprises me the most out of all this is as follows. In war torn countries, base stations are brought back to full service in 48 hours after being completely destroyed. In a technologically advanced country like Germany, the third largest provider has a problem with one of its base stations which it has not been able to solve for  more than a week. The result, no service to customers because a base station is defective. 

Maybe, there are reasons above my understanding of technology, but surely a design should accommodate for base station failures, without resulting in total loss of service. If a totally destroyed base station can be rebuilt in 48 hours, then,   I am starting to wonder if this is more about the demographics of the location than the technology. 

Amazed beyond comprehension.

An internal ticket is open but not visible for outsiders. Is there a possibility that the issue will be resolved in the next few weeks?

It's really not a nice situation that you have problems with the mobile connection. 

Unfortunately, there can be many different error patterns on base stations which, depending on their complexity, take longer to rectify than others.

What is displayed in Live Check and did you report the fault there?

You are also welcome to name a side street from your location (for data protection reasons, please do not give your real address). Then we can have another look to see if we can see more information.

Thanks for responding.

Yes, I agree a base station can have multiple problems. My message is about the duration of the repairs  and a total loss of service because of one base stations not functioning for more than a week. 

Yes, I have utilized the live check nearly on a daily basis, also contacted customer support, and was told that the base station is showing as red (meaning there was a problem, and O2 is working on it for more than a week).

The last message from O2 per SMS, was “we were unable to solve the issue, we will get back to you when resolved”. What does this message indicate in terms of duration?

One side street could be “Holzlachstraße”. Though I am not sure O2 will be able to do anything.

What I was trying to highlight in my earlier message is:

  1. Is there no work around which at least may provide a half or a third of the speed until the issue is resolved?
  2. Not having a workaround or backup base station is an issue on its own.
  3. Should I be looking for a different provider? - My own answer to the question, I suppose yes, because I am no longer sure how dependable that service will be if and when it ever comes back.

This is the current signal quality I get with an external antenna, and it goes and comes, it is not even consistent.

that really does not look very promising.. 

I just had a look onto your mentioned base station. It seems to have issues since the 19.06. The only further information i have that it is known an technicians are working on a fix but right now it does not show a date to which it will be fixed. 

Often there is no workaround to fill this coverage gap because mobile network is a location based service. Therefore some areas in which it is better or worse will mostly always exist (may not sound like the most reasonable answer for your issue to be honest). 

We can just keep on watching it and let you know, when there ist a known date for the fix. 🙂
