Is it possible to transfer WLAN router from one subscriber to another?. My friend (Previous Tenant) who had O2 internet connection in his name had deactivated his O2 internet connection but left WLAN router as it is. I applied for new O2 internet connection after I became only tenant and continued to use the same WLAN router. Seems he has got email to handover the router now. Is it possible to seamlessly transfer the router ownership with his consent to me instead of him handing over the router and I buying a new one.

Nope. The O2 homebox is bound to a contract. You are not able to use it.
The O2 routers for rent only. Your friend will be get charged for the router biz O2.
Buy a FRITZ!Box 7520 on eBay, about 60€, is the better router.
Or if you have more money a 7530ax.

Even If I decide to rent a O2 router now how to do it? Can I rent it now? After a month of getting new connection.

yes you can. You have to to pay 49,99€ one time fee + post and packed 9,99€ and a monthly fee for the HomeBox 3 3,99€/month or FRITZ!Box 6,99€ / month. See Table below.
Just call the hotline or wait for an O2 Mod.
Or buy a used FRITZ!Box 7520 on eBay.
