When will my DSL contract end and how do I know if O2 received my fax for contract cancellation?


Hi everyone,

I have moved abroad from Germany to India, and looking to cancel my 'O2 S Flex' DSL contract.

I have already set my last notice date for termination as 11.06.2021(11th June) in the Meine O2 app, and was under the impression that the contract would end on this date automatically.

But now, I found I also need to write a letter to O2 asking for cancellation. Since my family is in home quarantine and the Covid situation is worse in India, I cannot personally visit DHL or post office to mail the letter to Germany. I also cannot speak German so can't call the hotline.

So I have faxed the cancellation letter, the cancellation form and my deregistration form to 01805571766 twice.

So far I have not received any confirmation from O2 regarding the contract end date. Could you please tell me when my contract would end, if it's 11.06.2021 as shown in the app? And how would I know if o2 received my fax? My customer number is XXXXX.

o2 DSL contracts without minimum term (“FLEX”) can be terminated at any time with a notice period of 4 weeks to the end of a calendar month. See your order confirmation and the o2 T&Cs (German: “AGB”).

The successful sending of your fax and thus the receipt by o2 can be seen in the transmission report of your fax machine. 

If you have completed and signed the cancellation form and sent it in May, the contract can be cancelled at the earliest on June 30, 2021. If the 4-week notice period is not observed by the end of June, the contract will be terminated accordingly at the end of July. 

@blablup thanks for your response. I have used the 'terminate contract' feature in the 'Meine o2' app in May and it automatically calculated the 4 weeks notice period and set the last date of termination as 11.06.2021(June 11th).

As per my understanding, I need to inform o2 before 11th June in writing to cancel the contract, failing to do so will automatically renew the contract for 1 more month(isn't it?)

I have only faxed them the cancellation form on 6th June. So, now my doubt is, will they extend my contract for one more month after June 11th, even after I used the 'terminate contract' option in the app back in May? If not, what is the significance of the 'terminate' option in the 'Meine O2' app?

As far as I know, o2 does not offer termination via "Mein o2". However, it is possible to make a reservation for the cancellation online and then confirm it under the telephone number displayed there. If you do not call the special number shown, the reservation will expire. This is an additional offer to the contractually agreed termination in text form. 

The "Mein o2” app was designed for o2 mobile phone contracts. For o2 DSL Flex contracts, the app displays data that does not correspond to the contractual regulation.

If you don't want to believe me, please read it in your o2 order confirmation and in the o2 T&Cs. Here is the original text:

Verträge ohne Mindestlaufzeit können jederzeit mit einer Frist von 4 Wochen zum Ende eines Kalendermonats gekündigt werden.

If your notice of termination is received by o2 on 06 June, the end of the contract is 31.07.2021.
