TPlink VR2100v + Unifi Express

Hey,

I’ve been trying to set up a home network using Unifi devices, but this thing is really testing my patience.

I configured the TP-Link under Advanced > Internet with a single connection in Bridge mode using VLAN 7. When I connect my laptop directly to LAN1, the internet works fine. After that, I disabled DHCP, so as far as I know, it’s running as a pure modem.

Then I connected the Unifi and tried setting up the PPPoE connection—both with and without the VLAN setting—but no luck.

So, my question is: has anyone successfully gotten these two to work together flawlessly? Or at least the TPLink as a true modem?

Thanks!

Moin Moin,

normally the modem should set only VPI/VCI. Nothing else!

The rest should be done by the unifi. VLAN and PPP authentication.

Thanks! The only thing you can really do with this device is put it into Bridge mode. Strangely, the DHCP and Wi-Fi stay on, so you have to switch them off manually. In Bridge mode, you can set the VLAN ID, but there are no other options — or maybe I’m just not smart enough. :D

Honestly, this is my first time messing around with ADSL/VDSL; back home I mostly used cable services, which are way easier to maintain.

By any chance, do you know exactly where I can find the options you mentioned?

Yeah, this is getting redundant. I’m just gonna buy a DrayTek instead — I’m fed up with this project. :)

Thanks anyways! :)

VCI = 32

Hello @npc183,

could you give it another try with the TP-Link after schluej comment or are you going to try with a Dray Tek router?

Best Regards,

Gerrit

Hey Gerrit,

I got a DrayTek 165 and had it up and running in just 5 minutes.
I’m not exactly clueless when it comes to networks, but the TP-Link really drove me crazy!

Thanks again for your help!

Cheers,
A
