Setting up my own router

Spaniard89
Neuling
Dear all,

First of all, I am sorry. I dont speak German, therefore writing this thread in English.

I wanted to setup my own router instead of the one provided by o2. I have a ADSL connection, o2 young plan.

I would like to configure the following router: Netgear R8000-100PES NIGHTHAWK X6 AC3200 Wireless: Amazon.de: Computer & Zubehör

To do so, I need PPPoE connection details, my concern is where can I find my username and password?

Do I need to ask o2 or is it somewhere embedded in the router that I currently have?

I would really appreciate a reply.

Thanks and Cheers!

@mittca Try my article for TP Link Setup for O2 VDSL connection. Use google translate. For any question post here. Best regards

Hi,

yes, you need to ask o2. For this you can call the Hotline, write at live-chat, or wait here for an moderator, possible

in 1 - 3 days.

Greetz 🙂

Thanks for the reply Jogi. Do i need a special kind of router, or can I possibly use the one the posted above?

Hi,

no, this one isn´t possible, you need a router with modem in it, like a fritzbox 7110 and higher, or an ADSL router from o2 (IAD 3232/ IAD 4421)

Do you really have an o2 young with ADSL connection (16 Mbit down/ 1 Mbit up) ? In my opinion this is an VDSL connection (50 Mbit down/ 10 Mbit up).

If this the second connection you need an vdsl-router, maybe Fritzbox or someone of o2 routers 6641/6431 (mabye look and buy at ebay-kleinanzeigen).

Greetz :-)

Hi @Spaniard89‌,

Were you finally able to talk to customer service and get the details you need to setup a 3rd party router? I was considering buying an ASUS-N66U router, but not sure if it's worth it if I won't be able to use it with O2...

Thanks!

Hi @mvicomoya‌ Nope I wasn't able to get in touch with an o2 customer service agent. I will probably get in touch with them today. I will keep you updated. But as suggested earlier, ASUS-N66U cannot be used for O2, at the moment I am considering to buy: TP-Link TD-W8980B WLAN Router: Amazon.de: Computer & Zubehör

Okay, I see... I just noticed I missed that a DSL modem is required. I think I'll still go ahead and buy the ASUS-N66U. I'll connect it by ethernet to my O2 modem and hopefully I'll be able to setup several VLANs with the  ASUS router. I want to use such router because it allows you to redirect traffic of a specific VLAN through a VPN server.

Thanks for your reply, and please, keep me posted.

Be carefull, if you are connected to a Telekom Port with One Session, there is no PPPoE passthrough possible.

You can send us your customer Number and your personal identification code in a PN to the User @o2_DSL‌ .

Regards

Stefan

I tried to send a PM to o2_Dsl user but it seems I cannot send a message to someone who's not following me. I even tried Sending a PM to you but that didn't work as well. Any Suggestions?

Thanks and Regards,

Kishore.

Thank you for asking the exact question I have been chasing for over a week now.

I have called the hotline myself, but they hung up on me because I did not speak German.  So I had a work colleague call on three separate occasions.  I received a different response on each call, but none of them would hand over the DSL credentials (they all denied it was possible to get them).  I have found the O2 hotline to be completely useless so far.

I was about to start migrating to another provider when I saw your post.  One last try otherwise good-bye O2!

Hi AulDe, I sent a PM to @o2_DSL‌ and was able to get my PPPoE connection detail. I think you can do the same.

Hello Spaniard89.  I also sent a PM to o2_DSL, but I have had no reply.  Perhaps today.

Did your credentials work with your own modem?

Hi Stefan,

I also would like to use my own router, I started following the user o2_DSL, could you also follow me back?
So, I can send a PM with my details.

Thanks in advance

Hi Stefan,

Sorry it took me so long to look into this. I was about to PM o2_DSL, but either I'm unable to do so or I'm just stupid enough to not find such option.

Would you please take a look at it? Maybe I don't have the reputation enough or o2_DSL must follow me.

Thanks for you help.

Miguel.

Well, I tried my credentials on the weekend and no joy.  I've set a request to o2_DSL for more info as I suspect that I may need some more parameters (default gatway, etc).  You get time yet to have a go?

Hi, I haven't got sufficient time yet and moreover my router didn't arrive yet. Once I have my router, the first thing I will do is try it out. Did you happen to get any reply from O2 yet? If so can you please share the details?

NP.  I have received no answer from O2.  However, I figured out without them - I needed to use a VLAN of 7.  Everything else was automatic/default.

o2_Christian
Hi mvicomoya,

now you can also send us a PN.

Regards,

Christian

Hello all, we also hired the O2 DSL service and got the visit from the technician today. He didn't speak english so we couldn't ask about the configuration of our Modem/Router device.

I followed this thread but I couldn't find a way to PM @o2_DSL to ask for my own credentials to set up my modem. Any help will be greatly appreciated! I can't call to the hotline because I don't speak german either 😞

Hello @Julen.Orbegozo,
we sent you the information to setup the internet data connection on January the 22nd. And as far as I can see the DSL connection is actaivated and looks stable to me.
You will find the credentials for phone on our online portal under "Mein o2".

Lars
