Options for external connections, switch to DSL?

I have a O2 My home XL flex cable connection with an O2-issued fritzbox 6660 modem. I’ve been trying to get remote access sorted in the past to no avail. I understand Dual Stack is no option, had no luck forwarding ipv6 ports over ds-lite, gave up.

I am trying again, need to, need these tools. I have the server set up for ipv6 and working. However, no matter what I set the modem forwarding settings to, including fully exposed, I can only reach the server from the modem’s subnet. This is with everything brought down to the absolute minimum - just the apache2 start page. Via the modem, yes. Via cellular (2 different sims), no.

I really need this to work. apache with webdav, openvpn, these are basic tools for me when spending a lot of time traveling and I need them to function again.

What options do I have? Switch to DSL? My apartment has a phone plug I think, how to check if that is functional without a contract on it? Is there a convenient way to switch this with O2?

@hslagter Have you checked the dsl tariffs at your adress? Possible and what is the max speed?

https://www.o2online.de/internet-festnetz/dsl-tarife/

After your check, come back here in your thread. An how long you have now your o2 cable tariff now?

Looks like DSL is available up to 250MBps in my neighbourhood, which is fine with me if it indeed means being able to connect remotely. Higher speeds show cable or fibre, don’t think the building has been prepped for fibre, there was a question about interest some time ago but at the time I expected the cable to suffice.

Have had the cable contract for a couple of years at this point.

@hslagter You switch your contract from technology cable to SVDSL here over a o2 moderator (I strongly prefer) or over the hotline.

Do you need / want an o2 rented router (Fritzbox brand) or you want buy by yourself a router?

“Via the modem, yes. Via cellular (2 different sims), no.”

Have you checked, if your SIMs/phones use IPv6 (usually part of apn settings) ?

Eg. https://internet.nl/connection

@thomasschaefer good point, wasn’t aware that was a thing. I cannot be sure with what I know of this. I’m afraid your website is reporting no ipv6 even when connected to the, decidedly ipv6-only, O2 cable connection…

One of the sims’ apn settings I’m using is one that is explicitly ipv6 according to their forums (NL KPN ‘internet’ apn), but I don’t know what the gateway does to it ofcourse (mobile), the other one is O2 DE.

In any case a lack of ipv6 ability on cellular services, which I rely on a lot, would mean I have even more reason to have a more configurable/open connection, not just ipv6 with port forwarding functional, but ipv4 working, so true dual stack.

@Joe Doe if SVDSL connections from O2 indeed support that, e.g. full true DS for the reasons above, I would indeed like to switch. Via a moderator here would be ideal I think. My German is fine conversationally, but when we stray from my job or the weather I start lacking vocabulary quickly.

Thank you both!

@hslagter You want an o2 rented router (Fritzbox) or buy yourself an SVDSL router?

The o2 moderator will ask you too, but I want to shorten the waiting time

@Joe Doe a rented router. But this is if indeed true Dual Stack with forwarding and an ipv4 address is possible on DSL, otherwise the change is not a solution. Can you, or an o2 mod, confirm this?

@hslagter o2 DSL have a 100% public dual stack. If not, I will faster than light quit my contract at o2.

An o2 Moderator will confirm this.

That’s great to hear, and should then solve all my issues :-)

Hello @hslagter and welcome to our o2 community :-)

As I can see you already recieved lots of support from Joe Doe, thre ‘s nearly nothing left that I can answer ;-)

First of all, to confirm wat Joe Doe already said, yes, our o2 DSL connection uses real DualStack.

As DSL Router we have the Fritzbox Models 7530AX for a lease of EUR 4,99 a month and the 7690 for 7,99 a month. You might also have a look at some elctroic markets, sometimes they have special weekend offers for some router models.

I’ll transfer you over to my colleagues with a bit more knowledge in the contracts und tariffs, you should receieve an offer soon-ish.

Regards,
LArs

@o2_Lars Thank you very much. I had a look in Media Markt this weekend but given the prices I think at this point renting is the more economical choice, as chances of my using the same router for 4 years are small. If the 7530AX model fully supports forwarding and such that would be my choice.

Are all contracts 24 months? Or are there options with shorter cancellation times? Flexibility would be much appreciated given my somewhat nomadic field of work.

Hi @hslagter, I'm glad you were able to inquire and find a solution for you. We also have contracts that can be canceled monthly. But if you already have a contract with us, it can only be extended for another 24 months.

Kind regards, Ines.

Hi @o2_Ines. Thanks for the update. I am a bit puzzled. My original contract is cancellable monthly, and I am looking to switch to another technology contract. Why would I be required to commit for 24 months?

That's new to me, too.

Tariff changes without a discount have always been possible from Flex to Flex.

As far as I know, this also applies to technology changes.

Unless o2 has changed something in this regard.

Hello @hslagter

We would be happy to send you an offer for the DSL L 250 Flex tariff, incl. AVM Fritzbox 7560 AX router, by email.
Please let us know the location of the TAE socket and the place of installation. What type of building is it (detached house or apartment building)?
On which floor is the connection located?

Is your e-mail address still correctly stored in your customer data?

Best regards,
Maria

Hi @o2_Maria, thank you that is much appreciated.

I live in a small 1.5 room subunit of a detached 4-family house, with a TAE socket in the living room. Depending on which side of the building you look at this from, I’m ground floor, though relative to the front door it is -1 (house is on a hill).

My email in Mein O2 is correct.

Thank you and kind regards.

Wow, didn't know I was getting timed. What happened to the 8 days?

I'm busy during the work week. This will get my full attention tomorrow.

@hslagter After 8 days you need a new quote.
The way how it works is good. You read what you're getting, and only when you actively accept it is the order/change initiated.

Well I’m sorry for the snippy response but the unresponsiveness comment after only half the response term had passed had me a bit miffed.

The offer looks to be in line with the regular tariffs, thank you for the advice and for putting it together. I’ve just accepted it.
