Hi,

I started a internet contract in May 2018.

I sent a letter two weeks ago to cancel my contract from 10.09.2020. Today (09.06.2020) I received an e-mail that confirms my cancellation. In the email the following is mentioned

I want to cancel my contract on 10.09.2020, but in the mail it is written the cancellation date as 26.05.2021.

I will leave Germany in September this year. I wish to know what I must do additionally to successfully end my contract on time.

Thanks,

Xiaoshuai

Hello @fdsavrea and welcome to our o2 community :-)

If you signed a contract with a rntime of 24 months a cancelation wil take place to the end of this period.

In case you are leaving at an earlier datey ou will find more information in this file. We will need further documents that will prove that you will leave the country so the contract can be canceled to an earlier dat.

If there are still open questions feel free to ask, we will answer as soon as possible :-)

Regards,

Lars

@o2_Lars Many Thanks for your reply. You require “ 1. a registration certificate of your present place of residence. 2. a notification of your new, foreign domicile, alternatively a confirmation of your employer or landlord” to cancel my contract.

I have two questions.

  1. I will still stay in Germany until September. Therefore the registration certificate you require is the one issued by Germany government when I came to this country. Is that right?
  2. As to the new, foreign domicile, can I just send the address? I will live in my grandparent’s apartment. They don’t speak German or English.

    Thanks again!

Hi @fdsavrea,

actually, that’s a typing error in the English document - it should read “de-registration certificate”, as in: the certificate which confirms that your stay in Germany has ended, the one you get when you leave for good.

@Hansestädter Thanks!

Hi @fdsavrea

Please get back to us after you sent the forms via fax or letter, so we can talk to our colleagues from backoffice in your name.

Best Matze

@Hansestädter Danke fürs helfen und korrigieren.

Hi @o2_Matze

Many thanks. As to the new, foreign domicile, can I just send the address? I will live in my grandparent’s apartment. They don’t speak German or English.

Best

Hi @o2_Matze

As to the new, foreign domicile, can I just send the address? I will live in my grandparent’s apartment.

I am not sure if that is enough, but as a first step just sent everything you got, if our colleagues need further proof they will get back to you via e-mail.

Best Matze

Hi @o2_Matze

I went to the city hall to deregistrate this morning. The officer told me that deregistrating is only allowed one week before I leave Germany. To deal with my o2 contract, I need first to mail a cancellation letter, then after I receive your reply by either e-mail (seems faster) or mail I send the router back to you. How can I complete these in one week? Another question, in terms of the situation that one can only get the deregistration certificate one week before leaving, how can I avoid being charged for 3 months that I don’t live in Germany?

Best

Hello @fdsavrea,

since the contract you signed had a running time of 24 months and automatically extends by 12 months if not caceld prior to the end of the canbcelation period there unfortunately there is no possibility to avoid the charge of three months.

You can send back the router free of charge using our DSL logistics portal.

Regards,

Lars
