Hello,

I am sorry for writing in english as my german is not good. I am also sorry if this question was asked before multiple times. I will be moving to different city within Germany in a month or so.  My current DSL contract expires in November 2021. In the new city, I still could not find an apartment. I would be staying in University Guest house. How could I cancel the contract ? I went to local O2 store, the guy said I need Abmeldung. Is it enough to send request letter of cancellation to O2 or I need to attach this abmeldung with the letter? In the end, How will I return the router ?

Thanks,

Anil.

Can somebody please answer it ?

Hi @lost_in_space

Welcome to our o2 Community.

Maybe you could ask the new tenant of your appartment if he needs a DSL contract?

If so we can make him or her the new contact owner.

If not things get a bit tricky.

Standard procedure looks like this: First you make a request to move your DSL to your new address

(in this case the Universitys Guesthouse) if we can’t activate the DSL contract at your new place you

have to sent the so called “Meldebestätigung” from Einwohnermeldeamt as a proof of your new residence,

then its possible to cancel the contract to an earlier date (important note  you still have to pay a three moth fee

for the earlier cancellation.)

Best regards Matze

Dear @o2_Matze ,

Thank you for the detailed answer. I have sent the request letter along with new work contract and guest house booking to O2 few days back. I am guessing those documents are not enough to cancel the contract.   I want to ask couple of things:

  1. If the new tenant is willing to take over it, how can she/he do it ? What is the procedure to do it ?
  2. My present contract ends on 05.11.2021. It means if the above procedures don’t work, I can cancel my contract  in July or early August without all these documents, may be with only a request letter of cancellation ? Off course it means i need to pay till the end of contract i.e 05.11.2021.

I would really appreciate if you answer them. Thank you for your time.

Regards,

Anil.

Hello @lost_in_space,

if you want to change the contract owner you can arrange this in the online portal under Mein o2. If you want to cancel to an earlier date since the new tennant is not interested in the DSL tariff you can cancel with a three-months-notice after providing us all necessary documents, namely the “Abmeldebestätigung” and the “Anmeldebestätigung”.

Regards,

Lars

@o2_Matze , @o2_Lars

I have an o2 DSL contract till April 2022.

However, due to work, I will have to move to a new location within Germany. Initially, I will have temporary accommodation for 3-4 months with already an internet connection at the new location.

In that case, If I cancel the present contract, Will I be charged for all periods till April 2022.

As I will leave from my current address, Should I request for cancellation?

Hi @usersd

welcome to our community. :slight_smile:

There are two possibilities how to proceed. First option: you request a move to your new address. Even if there is already a connection in your appartment, you can take your contract with you. For us it is crucial that a port is free in the main distribution box at your new address. It is crucial for us that a port is free in the main distribution box at your new address. Then we can move your contract and you just pay the monthly basic charge as usual. Afterwards you can move again if you find a permanent residence. If there is no free port at your new address we will cancel the contract and charge three basic charges in advance.

The second option is to cancel directly due to the move. Please be careful because you will have to pay the outstanding remaining basic charges at once. If it is no problem just send a cancellation request to our customer service in in Nuremberg.

@o2_Matze @o2_Lars

Thanks for your clarification, Can I do the request for moving the connection to a new address online through my account ( Mein o2)

@usersd Yes you can. But not now, because o2 have in the moment problems with their it systems.

Hello @usersd,

unfortunately we had some issues in the past days but now everything is back to normal :-)

Were you already able to arrange moving your DSL connection to your new address? Or is there still something not working as it should? :-)

Lars

I find that the new apartment already has internet connection ( o2 ) from the owner. It means that the port is already occupied and no further connections can be made. SInce I have already signed up for a move of my existing connection, Will the contract be cancelled with three months of connection charge or the technician will try to put my connection instead of the existing one at the new apartment?

Hi @usersd

if the port is still blocked and the former tennant did not request a move to his new appartment, we will close his contract by sending an invoice for the remaining months. It doesn’t matter if the contract was made with o2 or any other provider. Then your contract can be switched to your new appartment.

You don’t have to care at all.

@o2_Manga , @o2_Lars , @o2_Lars

I think my query was misunderstood,

I want my contract to be cancelled, as the new apartment already has a connection.

I want to use the connection provided by my owner and cancel my contract ( I have actually decided to move , as earlier suggested by you, in order to cancel the contract)

please check the earlier message thread

@usersd

well, I think I really misunderstood. Sorry for that. In your case if you move to an existing o2 DSL contract which is a part of this flat, we will check this by working your request to move to this address and cancel the contract by charging three basic charges in advance.

Greetings

@o2_Matze , @o2_Lars , @o2_Manga

Ok, Understood.

Recently, I also sent a mail/letter to o2 stating my status . They revert me back mentioning that I need to submit my “new meldebeschienigung” and additional information about the existing internet connection  in the new apartment.

In that case, Is the move that is scheduled end of the week is still valid or its cancelled. In my account status, I could see that my current o2 dsl contract is terminated.

Hence, There is an element of confusion about the same. Please suggest

Hello @usersd,

since we in our community to not wor on cancelations or decisions about tha twhatsoever I strongly recommend to send the requested documents so the cancelation departement can have a deeper look into this.

If the deactivation on your old address is stil happening this week we have no possibility to stop this.

Regards,

Lars
