Compatible Fritzbox

Greetings everyone

I am planning to buy a Fritzbox but not sure about the exact specifications to look for and also the compatible models. Is VDSL capability the only primary concern or something  else needs to be considered also. Please let me know.

Kind regards

There are more options to rent a router than from o2. I would like to share a direct link to the offer, but o2 doesn’t like it. But let me google that for you.

And to quote myself:

I would go for a 7530 instead.

There's not much choice: AVM Fritzbox 7590 or 7530.

Please note that all Fritzboxes sold for the German market only support the German language.

Hey, thanks for the reply, I was able to find 7360 and 7430 too online, but not sure if these are suitable.

Although international versions are available for some of the devices they have to be bought new i.e. refurbished versions are not available.

I assumed you want to buy a new device retail. 7360 has end of life status = non-suitable. 7430 was superseded by 7530. 7430 is not suitable for o2 my Home XL, supports only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with N-Standard and only Fast Ethernet. I would go for a 7530 instead.

The international version could help with english UI. Tested by @Joe Doe

Hey @blablup , @Klaus_VoIP & @Joe Doe

I ordered a refurbished 7360 yesterday since it was only 20 Euros, and it is worrisome that it won’t be viable for long. I don’t plan to stay here beyond 2021 and it would be a waste buying an expensive router because of the poor resale values, associated issues with directly selling an item and also the below-par net speed in Berlin.

So should I return the item upon arrival or just wait till it becomes obsolete?

It is already obsolete, because AVM has declared its end of life status. This means that the device is no longer considered safe in the sense of the o2 GTC. The use is at your own risk. Please consider that there is a considerable cost risk for you, e.g. regarding the misuse of IP telephony or in online banking.

If you cannot afford a modern router, think about renting one. You can rent a Fritzbox 7590 from about 3.99 EUR/month. Google for Router Miete.

@raydiation what tariff you have booked? The 7360 is not really stable with a 100 Mbit VDSL line.

Thanks a lot, @blablup and @Joe Doe for the detailed answers, my contract is “o2 my Home M Flex”. The primary reason why I selected O2 since they had the “Flex” option available.

However, since I have to pay 49.99 Euros apart from the monthly rent, I would like to buy a decent router instead that lasts till 2021.

Hence, if I buy 7430, would it be good enough? Or should I go for 7530 instead? 7590 is too costly, to be honest, and doesn’t seem like worth the investment since I am not planning to stay here for long.

Regards @raydiation

Thank you so much @blablup for helping me out through this.

I decided to rent the product (7590) as it turns out to be cheaper even for 24 months and there is a supposed “lifetime” guarantee.
