I don't know what is doable with O2 alice and with what kind of equipment so I would like to get some advices here.
I have flat internet access without autentification (since they had some issue with it, let let it go like this).

Tnx.

Don't use the Home Box as a AP for mash.
Turn off the wifi of the home box, and connect an ap of your choose.
Than use repeater of the AP U choose.
Or buy a fritzbox with mash components.
Is your phone connected to the home box?
If yes do not use the splitter!

Hi @schluej,
yes, phone is connected to Homebox. I am looking to have firewall in place like Fortigate or Xg where I can control most of the stuff. Doing double-NAT is causing some issue in video conferencing. I am doing 50% homeoffice work and I need to get this setup in proper way. So main question what device I can use for attaching it to o2? Sophos XG with ADSL SFP comes to my mind but there is no mesh there.

Homebox should be removed from this setup completely.

If the Phone is connected to the homebox remove the splitter...
Fritzbox (75xx) could be nice and is able to do mash with fritz hardware.
Has not too much to configure
If you would like to have more control a be.ip is nice.
Is working with O2. Has an SIF, VOIP. For a better wlan covering you could use a W2022ac that is configure able over the be.ip and U are able to VLAN on WiFi.

Have you ever tried a FritzBox, it was way more options than the o2 Homebox and variants with a VDSL2 Vectoring modem, I recommend can connect directly to the phone line, there is no double NAT that way. AVM is also offering repeaters, that are specially made for doing mesh with FritzBox routers, this setup works great.

If you wan't to to use a Fortigate, you need to get a VDSL2-modem, Draytek offers compatible ones in the Vigor line, the 130 is fine for VDSL2-Vectoring, the 165 is needed for Supervectoring that you don't, because no Homebox is supporting it yet. You can then put any mesh system as Access Point behind your Firewall, but it is a way more complicated and more expensive solution and only offers advantages for using multiple subnets imo.

I don't care about cost that much since company will pay it anyway 🙂. So we are getting close. I am planning to upgrade my line to 100mbps link and I guess VDSL will be required. So let's say I get Vigor (this one: https://www.draytek.de/vigor165.html?) and get bridget it to Fortigate or Sophos XG. How do I connect phone to this line? What else do I need here? Sorry for asking basic questions but I just want to make it sure everything is inline ....

IP phones could be a problem...
I would use the bintec be.ip, that you have phone (ISDN, Analog Phone and SIP).
And on router side you have many options. And it is working fine with O2 Network and phone.

Phone is just plain analog phone connected to Homebox. And it is OK. I don't use IP phone here. I will check Bintec. Been replacing them long time ago with Fortigates. Didn't like them then 🙂.

So this issue how to attach phone to Vigor as modem configuration is still open. Any ideas?

You have "only VoIP/SIP" with new landline, so you need a SIP Phone or something that converts e.g. an analog phone has to convert to SIP.
So if you router as no SIP to analog (ISDN) converter you have to connect a SIP phone.

If I understand well, o2 already is delivering SIP to Homebox and Homebox is just playing ATA adapter??? If yes, didn't know that 🙂.

Yes that's right. What i "forget" if you looking for a be.ip please use the be.IPplus.
With out plus ist for telephone systems. The be.IP with plus can be it self a telephone systems so that you will be able to connect a telephone to the system.

Thanks. I am getting familiar with this setup in Germany. Not so many info around so I had to ask here.

One additional questions: If I switch to SIP phone, where do I find info regarding configuration of that SIP phone?

@AKaric Be careful if you use a second device for O2 sip. This don’t work. O2 allow only one device each time. And you must use the DNS Server from O2 too.

@AKaric the login data for the sip account, you will find on mein o2.
You will need Sip server, Sip rufnummer and Sip password.
With sip phones using directly the sip server the experiences are not so good.
But you can try it...

What do you mean second device? Modem like Vigor attached to firewall like Fortigate or Sophos XG?

O2 has no SIP Telephony, it’s a VOIP telephony with a subset of SIP Protokoll.

No nomadic using, only one device at the same time (i have my SIP on iPhone, iPad, Fritzbox, Gigaset, if a call ring, all devices ring)

and only the client uses the same dns and ip, that is attached to the dsl Box.
