Unlock phone


Hi I am travelling overseas and need to unlock my phone (not my SIM) to use a local sim overseas. How do I do this? I do not speak German and can’t get through to an English speaker on the O2 helpline

phones, bought from O2 should not have any lock, so you should be able to use it with any SIM card..

Which one do you have actually ? Bought from o2 ? When did you buy it ?

Samsung Galaxy S8, bought from 02 in Berlin, Germany, 05.02.2019

 

I am pretty positive it is locked. It has never registered my overseas SIM and I believe it had a blue sticker on the box saying it was locked when I bought it.

 

I have emailed Samsung with my model code and IMEI number. They said they would send me my unlock code.

 

Hopefully that works. O2 have not been helpful at all.

I still think there should not be a SIM lock, but years ago O2 offered to do it this way, in case there is one…

Unlock Simlock at O2 - that's how it works When signing a cell phone contract with O2, the associated cell phone is provided with a Simlock. So you can only use O2 SIM cards. This lock expires automatically after 24 months and you can use any other SIM card with the device. To do this, log in to Mein O2 and switch to "My tariff / SIM card". There you will then find detailed instructions on how to unlock your phone. If you would like to remove the block before the 24 months have elapsed, please contact O2 customer service. Then enter your IMEI number of the device there so that it can be activated. This process will then cost you around 100 euros. Automatic unlocking after 24 months is free.

Yes, tried that - couldn’t find or follow any of the instructions. Anyway, will wait to see what Samsung sends me… “Your activation and unlock code is currently being generated to match your phone and network provider. Within a few days you will receive an activation code by email with further steps on how to activate. “
