O2 - Extremely irritated by poor quality of service (LTE/5G)
Good evening,
I am writing here as I have officially had enough of the poor connection quality with o2 mobile internet. My current plan is - o2 Free Unlimited Smart - which, I pay for on time, every single month. Without question.
As of the past 4 months or so, perhaps longer - I have experienced every single day while at work, inside OR outside of the building - extremely slow - less than 1mb connection, constant connection drop outs, disconnects and of course - for some hours, absolutely no connection whatsoever.
Thinking originally it was my telephone, I upgraded from an iPhone 11 Pro to a Samsung S22 Ultra, and the issue persists. All of my colleagues, who also use O2 have the same issue. Right down to the letter.
I have reported the issue to O2, dozens of times - throughout the time, noting that the connection issue is still present - but instead, I am told on the service checker page “There is no issue.”
This, is a lie. And it’s downright rude and unfair to paying customers, who are long term customers - to have to deal with this. When the connection works - sporadically, I might add - it can be very good, but considering I cannot hold or even maintain a stable enough connection to load a single web page, let alone watch a video - I am extremely upset and rightly so.
I use this phone not only for personal, but for working too - and whether I am trying to place a call to family and/or friends back in my home country, which, is often cut off - or loading an important meeting via Skype - I can forget it.
O2,
Please investigate this issue. It is absurdly unfair that you take the money without any delay - but when it comes to delivering anything above a “meh” service, it makes me wonder why I am even paying you to begin with.
Apologies if this comes across as harsh, but due to an internet connection issue - one of my clients decided to back out of the call and walk away, losing me yet another potential high value customer…

Anyone here competent enough to answer?
Hello @Vladislaff ,
how are things looking on your end nowadays? I don’t see any direct issues with the stations around your address, except for one being under higher load. But a high load is not a technical issue that can be fixed by our technicians as you’ll surely understand.
Kind regards, Sven
Hi @o2_Sven
It's still the same. 1-2mb/s.
I'm sorry, but I do not believe you when you say that the issue is with high load. Then why did it happen overnight? Why doesn't it go back to normal at night or on the weekends?
I haven't seen speed above 50mb/s since 14th of February.
What I can see is that one of your base stations (presumably 180799) broke down and you still (after two months!!!) haven't been able to fix it. Because of this all the subscribers of this station were switched to other stations which caused a higher load on them and a worse signal since they're further away.
Hello @Vladislaff,
I am sorry that you are affected by a long-term restriction in the mobile network in your area. Unfortunately, the work on the affected mobile phone mast cannot be accelerated at the moment, and we cannot give an end date for the restrictions at the moment. Our technicians are informed and will fix the problems in your area. I hope that the work will be completed soon and that you can use the mobile network undisturbed again.
Best regards
Giulia
It is unacceptable to have such poor internet in the 21st century. And you can't even provide me with a resolution date? This is beyond incompetent.
This is my speed now on you "state of the art", "cutting edge" technology.
PS I am sending this message via T-mobile since O2 can't even load this page. *FACEPALM*
Hi @Vladislaff , i am sorry to read your posts and that you have so much trouble with the internet connection. Is the screen made for a speedtest at your contact adress? Which hardware are you using? Do you have this issue in the whole flat? And with all your contracts ans Sim cards?
kindly regards Michael
Hi @o2_Micha ,
The screenshot is at my contact address. I have tried 4 different phones (3 android, 1 iphone) and an lte modem. The issue is at the whole neighborhood - approximately 500-1000 meters radius around my apartment. The issue is with all my 3 sim cards.
When I go further to a different location (like Altstadt or the train station) I get 130-150mb/s.
Right now the speed at my apartment (and around it) is under 3mb/s.
Hey @Vladislaff,
I'm very sorry about your case. Unfortunatley i can't tell you any new things. o2 Guila gave you the latest facts...I'm very sorry.
Greetings, Flo
Hi @o2_Flo ,
Can you please at least give me an approximate resolution date?
I am ready to wait another month or so for a miracle that you start working, but if is it is going to be fixed in a year then I need to cancel my contract. Right now I don’t know what am I paying you for.
Thank you.
Hello @Vladislaff,
Unfortunately, we currently have no specific information regarding an improvement in the network situation at your address.
At the beginning of May, however, work will be carried out at our cell phone sites in your area. Please let us know if the reception has improved then.
Best regards
Giulia
Hi @o2_Giulia ,
The “beginning of May” has passed and still no change.
What could be my next steps here?
Can you provide me with a temporary DSL uplink until LTE is fixed? Since this issue is o2’s fault.
Or do I need to cancel my contract?
Thank you!
Dear @Vladislaff ,
three base stations are currently still reporting restrictions in the region. Have you tried switching to 5G? If you are still experiencing restrictions, please report them via our Live-Check.
Kind regards,
Andrea
Hi @o2_Andrea , 5G is not available at my location.
I have reported the problem with LTE dozens of times since February through your call-center, live-check, this community. But no one has even lifted a finger to resolve this. The service quality you provide is absurd.
I do not hesitate to advise everyone I know to never use o2.
Hey @Vladislaff,
I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, we too only have a limited insight into the repair and conversion measures. :(
Greetings, Flo
Hi @o2_Flo ,
Any news on this? I am without internet since February.
The only thing that works with o2 is billing - this is where everything is fine - you continue to take money for the service you can't provide.
Hey @Vladislaff,
sorry to hear that. I've looked again. There should no longer be any interference at your home address. One base station is defective there, but the others cover the area well. Are you on the 4G or 5G network?
Greetings, Flo
Hi @o2_Flo I am on 4g and nothing has changed.
I don't know what was it that broke in the first place but I still see that the closest tower to me (180799) is still not working.
Just tested with 5g.
On Bismarckplatz the speed is 200mbs. 500 meters from my apartment it is 10mbs, near my apartment and inside it is 2-3mbs
What I don't understand is don't you have a single employee in this city? Can't they just take an o2 sim card, plug it in their phone and then check the internet speed at this location?
I know not everyone wants to put an o2 sim into their device and I don't blame them, but they can throw it out afterwards.
It has been 40 days. How long does it take to fix one base station?
It is capped in the software. You will be talking to a wall most of the time, they will take you to the moon and back without answering your actual question. The answer is ” It is capped by the software based on the demain in the area” because they rent limited bandwidth and distribute the same to 1 billion person (if you understood the joke). The profit from this and they do not care. You would get your full maybe early morning, during the day and peak hours it would never exceed 3.5mb. Just change the country man. The internet and contracts in Germany are overrated, they have laws and it is according to the law like that, imagine without laws, they would eat people even alive.
Hey @Vladislaff,
If you have the option, try setting your device to 5G. Sorry that the limitations are still there for you. I know they are working on two base stations. But the remaining ones should at least cover you adequately. Of course, due to the metropolitan area, there may be situations with overload.
Greetings, Flo
Hi @o2_Flo ,
I already wrote above a week ago:
“

”
So for 5G it is the same. One of your employees can just go to this location and see for themselves.
Hi @Vladislaff, I can understand you well. If the mobile Internet is not as fast as desired, it can be very annoying.
If many cell phones are logged on to a station, this can impair performance. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the performance there will improve again soon.
Kind regards, Ines.
Hi @o2_Ines
No, you don’t understand. What you are saying is just not true.
The speed was 50-60MBs from December to February and then dropped overnight to 2-3MBs and hasn’t gone back up since. You’re telling me that in one night in February so many people moved to this location and still haven’t left even for a day?
Please stop lying and finally go ask your technical department what is wrong with your equipment.
Hey @Vladislaff,
If a station fails at a site or repairs are being made to it, this "overnight outage" may well occur. Several devices then log into the same station. I'm sorry that I can't give you any new information on this.
