Number port in to another provider while no service

Hello. I had o2 contract with try 30 days risk free program. I have cancelled my contract before 30 days period and started number port in process to another provider. The day after I filled the form to cancel my contract, cell service to my number cut off. Does the number port in to another provider still proceeds or did I lose my number? Thanks in advance for all the help
