Is it possible to change phone during O2 contract?

Hi, everyone! Is it possible to switch/change to a new phone during the contract? My contract is still running but I would like to upgrade to new tariff and phone.

Any suggestions!

Yes, but you would still have to pay the remaining instalments for the old phone so you would be paying for two phones for some time.

Hello @Sourabh27 ,

welcome to the o2 Community 💙.

What bs0 said here is correct, the myHandy contracts are independent and as such you can of course also have a second one, but that would mean that you pay these in parallel.

Kind regards, Sven

@o2_Sven @bs0 what if someone want to trade in the current phone (which am still paying for) and upgrade to a different phone (which should be more expensive) and then keep paying as following:
(new phone price + old phone price - (already paid amount + trade in value)) / contract duration (24, 36 months)

is such an offer possible ?

Would you buy a 6 Month old used phone??

When you buy something, it's yours. How do you come up with the idea that you can give it back after 1/2 a year?
Only if you bought something over the internet you can return it within 14 days. That's all.

@schluej well it’s not like that, for iphones for e.g at least they have the trade in option so what they can do and would be cool is to provide the following option
“new phone price + (old phone price - (already paid amount + the old phone trade in value which can be up to 800€ for e.g in case of the phone described above))” and then devide the result with 24 to get the new tarif to be paid by the user (or even device the amount by the number of months still in the current contract)

the good point of such thing is :

  1. give the user the option to get always the latest phone. without the need of paying the price of the old phone at once.
  2. reduce the number of electronic waste as per my case for e.g i will be paying for the contract i have right now to end it, then buy the new phone. so now i have a second phone that i dont need and i guarantee you that i will be also upgrading to third phone during the next year if there is a new iphone generation etc…

also i think the O2 in UK have something called O2 Switch up, which allow you to change your phone every 90 days.

Hello @fbenkhlifa ,

that is not possible. Technically until you have finished paying the rates for the first phone, it is not yet your property so you could not trade it in.

Best regards, Sven
