Incorrect PIN/PUK

Dear all, I am currently outside of Germany and my phone got switched off. Upon restarting it, I was asked to enter the simcard pin so I did like I normally do. It told me that the pin is incorrect and I had to type in the PUK number. I did that and it gave me the prompt that it’s incorrect again. I have tried this a few times and I was crosschecking each time with a picture I took earlier of my pin and PUK. Any idea why this could be the case?
