Hopeless slow internet speed... O2 Myhome

I’m have been using O2 Myhome since October 2021.

Recently, the internet speed is so slow even though I installed the external antenna.

As soon as I set up Myhome last year in October, I realized it is bad choice…
Nevertheless, I was trying to solve the problem and I installed the external antenna.

When I installed the antenna, the internet speed was very well and I was satisfied. It was over 20Mbps.

But, recently, I realized the speed is very low, lower than 4Mbps, even if there is the antenna…
The reason is that the Router is connected to the mast far from my home.

I tried to connect my router to the closed mast, but it failed.

I really feel very hopeless… My life quality is dropped and I cannot do anything at home.

I really want to cancel this contract… I know it is not possible…. it is crazy.

Hi @jjhyung and welcome on bo(a)rd.

First of all calm down. If there is a solution out of it, I won’t find it, lame as I am! ;)

Okay, here we go:

Where do you live?

Witch (which) LTE-Router do you use? ;)

Did you already check the O2 livecheck:

https://www.o2online.de/netz/netzstoerung/

Scroll down a bit and give in your adress. No problems known?

Here you go. Don’t wonder if you find your post in english community and no more here.

;)

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

I live in Kiel.

The Router I’m using is made by ASKEY cooperation, as shown in the below picture.

Please check the below map.

From my home, The tower cell 1 (ID: 278961) is close and the speed is not bad when it is connected.

But, the tower cell (2963737), which is far from my home, is usually connected and its speed is horrible. It is obviously slow and it make me unhappy, absolutely, even though I’m paying 34 Euro per month.

Now, the measured internet speed is now 2.24Mbps for the download.

Currently, the router is not connected with the external antenna. Last night, the antenna was broken when I tried to align the direction again… stressful.

When I measure the speed of my cell phone, I’m using Ja mobile and it is provided by Telekom. The internet speed is 26Mbps and it is very stable.

I hope you can give me a solution. If it is possible to connect the close tower, this problem will be solved. But, I don’t know to solve it.

When I tested the internet speed inside throughout my home, the maximum speed was about 4~5Mbps for the download and it was unstable. In the worst case, the speed was lower than 1Mbps.

It is a result that I measure right now. Do you want to use this internet at your home? how horrible it is

As I said, if the router is connected to near cell tower, the speed will be faster and I will not complain more.

But, now it is too slow to watch Worldcup Final… I feel very annoying and angry.

Do you have any solution? such as changing latest router or others?

If you don’t have, I will try to find a way to change the internet provider.

I know it is very hard. But I will try to do it.

Dear @jjhyung ,

welcome to our community. 🎄

Have you pointed your home spot in the direction of the transmitter mast in Kronshagener Straße? Do you have a window in this direction? The base station on Rober-Koch-Straße currently has performance restrictions in the LTE range. Maybe @Tom_  can help you a little.

Kind regards,

Andrea

Hi @jjhyung,

can you write us an update please? How is the situation at the moment? I hope that it’s better now. 🍀

Best regards, Marco

I bought and installed a new mast bracket on the balcony to set the antenna correctly.
Fortunately, I could find a correct angle and, as a result, the download speed is about 20Mbps and the upload speed is about 4Mbps, which is lower than the bad cell tower connection.

But, sometimes, it lost the connection and the internet is connected to a bad cell tower.

Still, I feel bad… I have invested over 100 Euros in getting sufficient internet condition.

Hi @jjhyung,

thank you for your feedback. It was worth a try. Too bad it didn't pay off. At least not yet. I hope the base station can provide a faster connection soon. 🍀 Maybe you can use a LTE router where you can select the frequency but I don't know if there is a router with this feature on the market.

Best regards, Marco
