Hello!

I am moving out of the flat that I am currently renting in the end of December 2020. For about 6-7 months I will not be in Germany, therefore I would like to cancel my DSL and mobile contracts from 1st of January 2021. It does not make sense for me to pay for both of these things if I am not even in the country. I cannot do the Abmeldung in the Burgeramt either because I am still going to be a student in the University, just on the online education (due to Coronavirus). Currently my contract was extended until September 2021 and this is not an option for me. What can I do in this situation?

Thanks.

Hi @daria_i

welcome to our English community.   I understand your wish to end your mobile phone- and DSL-contract as soon as possible.

But as you will not deregistrate yourself from Germany, the cancellation because of moving abroad will not be an option for you.

In case that you move out of Germany because of your university-study, you have the possibility to freeze your contracts for a maximum of 12 months. Please check that possibility here: freezing of your contract (in German)

Therefore, the only possibility that I see for you is the cancellation to the end of your duration. Please read the cancellation-process here: Normal Cancellation (in German)

If you find a friend in Germany who likes to take over your contracts, we could change the ownership of your contracts. The link for the change of ownership of the contracts is the following: form for changing the ownership of your contract

I hope that you find a convenient possibility to cancel your contracts.

Loving greetings,

Tobias
