Datennutzung außerhalb Europas

Hello, I have questions about data usage outside of Europe.

When I used my mobile phone outside of Europe, mobile data was accidentally activated, and within minutes I reached the "cost protection limit"  .
After calling the service center to reduce or completely deactivate this €50 limit, I was informed that this is not a service offered by o2.

Could you please tell me if this is correct?
If so, I would also like to know why it's not possible to implement this setting with a customizable amount or a complete deactivation  .

Some providers offer such settings. Therefore, it is possible to implement this.

Thank you in advance for your reply. Have a nice day.

Hi @Zulf

welcome to our community. Pleasure to meet you here. 🙂

It is correct that the cost protection can’t be deactivated or defined by your personal limit.

The only chance to avoid usage at all is to deactivate mobile data before you reach your destination outside Europe.

Otherwise you will be charged up to 60 EUR.

Greetings

I'm a little surprised by what you're saying. There are actually two cost protection levels, which are also communicated via text message. Deactivating cost protection cannot be in the customer's interest, as the costs are very high without a suitable roaming option for non-EU countries.

You may be able to switch to an option without international roaming, or you can order an option for non-EU countries: 2GB in >100 countries

Hello @Zulf ,
Klaus_VoIP has already explained it.
There are two stages that apply when using the service outside the EU.
Would the tip about booking a different international option help you?
Kind Regards,
Solveig

Hello @Klaus_VoIP, @o2_Solveig
Thanks for an answer, but that option is not interesting to me. i would prefer to just disable roaming usage for card at all when im outside of Europe. As for times im abroad, buying a local sim card is much cheaper option.

But understood, O2 is not a provider that could help with it. As also got same answer from contact center.

Thank you for answers, have a nice day.

Correct - no German provider offers a “Europe-only data option.” But that hasn't caused me any problems so far thanks to dual SIM and eSIM. When I'm in distant time zones, I often deactivate the o2 SIM and use an eSIM profile from a roaming provider.

That is a good advice from Klaus_VoIP, @Zulf, another possibility are travel eSIM, for example with our cooperation partner eSimFLAG.

Best Regards,

Gerrit

@o2_Gerrit thank you for your advice. but problem for me personally is not finding an internet provider. The problem im facing sometimes is when phone switches to wrong simcard for mobile data usage when im abroad. but as i understood you guys have no solution for this. Thank you for your answers
