The next problem I’m having is that a 250kb pdf document and a 2.8mb photo of my abmeldung cannot be uploaded - the form rejects it, saying there is a problem with the file size, whilst also saying each file must be under 3mb, which they are…

I am not sure if my suggestion will resolve the problem, but maybe can you try to convert your image into a pdf? Maybe the upload formular only allows pdf files.

Not sure if I’m providing acceptable proof that I’ll be where I say I will with the other document or not, though. 

It states exactly what is needed.

I’m aware, which is why I’m asking the question and detailed the problem I’m having in providing the second document. The published guides says this:

a registration certificate of your new home abroad or alternatively a confirmation of your employer, landlord or university (enrollment confirmation)

As a citizen with an already established home in the U.K., there is nothing for me to register. Would a copy of a bill as evidence of me living at that address be sufficient? I don’t get a registration certificate as is done in Germany, as that’s not a thing there.

I’ve been made redundant in Germany, so that rules out employer confirmation. 
I’m a homeowner with a mortgage, so no landlord.

I’m not in full time education, so no enrolment confirmation available.

Would a copy of a ticket for travelling on the Channel Tunnel from Calais to Dover be acceptable?

Someone on this forum was leaving for India, and it was agreed that a copy of their flight ticket would be accepted as they also could not provide any of the documents listed in the guide.

Thanks for checking on my progress.

Yes, I was able to upload the documents. I did as ​@5G_Tester suggested and changed the .JPG image into a .PDF to reduce the file size.

The proof of my U.K. mortgage was accepted with confidential information redacted by me, as suggested by ​@Bumer, which is what I was most worried about as my situation was not covered in the guide (no tenancy agreement, moving to a country where they don’t require me to register, and no employment contract). Everything is in progress now and I received an email from o2 confirming the cancellation and to await a final bill.

​@BenH77 Thanks for your feedback. Great that the conversion to PDF worked out. It's right that you redacted the confidential data; it's not necessary for the termination. Great that it worked out for you. When was your contract terminated?
