Today I was logging into an app that send verification code on phone no via sms but can not receive text. However i can text and my friends are receiving them but I can not receive when they reply . I am talking about normal sms not imessage.
however iMessage works fine

I agree with Bumer's question, do you have multicards (several SIM cards for the same phone number) with your contract?
If yes - then the SMS reception seems to be active on another SIM card.
You can easily check this online in your multicard settings and make changes.
