Hi,

Being a very tech savvy person, I purchased o2 prepaid sim in Frankfurt thinking I can activate on my own. To my shock, O2 has fairly complicated process in place, in ALL GERMAN WEBSITE, where one mistake could cost your dearly. Anyways, I tried for two days but at “verification stage”, regardless of country I choose (including Germany, France etc.), it kept showing “service not offered for the region”. Thinking it’s some bug, I took 2 hour out of my day to visit FOUR O2 stores and all of them refused to help because prepaid sim wasn’t purchased from them.

Nonetheless, I decided to go ahead and surprisingly video verification was initiated. Now, the person on other end saw my passport and told “my first name and surname are entered different” and before I COULD RESPOND, DISCONNECTED THE CALL. Now, the activation website is giving me no option to see or rectify the data and giving me only post indent option for verification.

I have been harassed for three days now and have wasted atleast 10 hours on this. If you guys have some shame, activate my sim (I am willing to supply passport etc.) with promised 6GB for 4 weeks or delete all the data so that I can re-enter and initiate verification again. Please DO NOT ADVICE POST INDENT BECAUSE I’m leaving germany tomorrow and congratulations the cartel of O2 (company, store owners), you have looted a toursit for 10 Euros, FIRST AND THE LAST TIME.

Sim number: 89****************

Mobile number: 49************

@Others: Do not purchase o2 prepaid sim.

  1. The store owners will not help you if you have not purchased sim from them. NOWHERE THIS HAPPENS IN THE WORLD. Even the community post by admins conveniently miss this point.
  2. Online activation is very complex and if person at OTHER END FEELS some discrepancy is there, they will shun you off to run to post office in a new country.

Not sure how a person can be looted, but OK.

It's unfortunate you had problems but why is it o2's fault that you entered your name incorrectly?

You can thank the German legislator for the complicated process. Your "advice" should therefore be not purchase a prepaid SIM in Germany. It would of course make sense for the name to be updated at the time of registration if necessary but the providers aren't flexible enough for this simple option.

because I entered the name correctly and the person did not gave an opportunity to explain nor the system is allowing me to delete the data and re-enter again. that’s basic minimum or you dont make mistakes? Also, the german laws are perfectly fine which require verification but it is O2 policies wherein O2 own stores wont help troubled customers but they can do instant activation if you purchase from them. I dont know about you but I have been to major countries and no where this anti-customer attitude is shown by telecom OWN stores. Also, nowhere O2 discloses for which countries it doesn’t offer “video verification”. Susceptible customers may purchase sim only to find themselves running from corner to corner.

Welcome to the Community @sufferingtourist.

Of course, I'm sorry that you had these experiences with prepaid SIM activation. Really unfortunate that the first and last names were swapped. Changes are only possible after the identity process has been terminated. If you want, we can switch to private messages to exchange all the necessary data there so that I can check for you whether I can cancel the current identity process.

Kind regards

Steffen
