Activate O₂ prepaid roaming while abroad (India)

Hi everyone,

I have a prepaid O₂ SIM card from Germany and I’m currently in India. I need to use this SIM for banking purposes, mainly to send SMS and possibly use mobile data.

Could someone please guide me on how to activate international roaming for my prepaid SIM? I couldn’t find clear information in Mein O₂, and I’m not sure if simply topping up my credit would automatically enable roaming.

Any detailed steps or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

No, there's no pack or option for India. Mobile data and text messaging are very expensive. Therefore, it won't work without credit.

Have you tried manual network selection?

Thanks for your message. My O₂ SIM is currently connected to Airtel (an Indian Telecom service provider), and the signal strength is good. I’m also able to receive SMS messages.

However, I’m still unable to send SMS or use mobile data. Could you please let me know if there’s any additional step required to fully enable international roaming on my prepaid SIM, or if I need to activate a specific pack or option in Mein O₂, or simply top up my credit?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks a lot for the clarification! That helps. I’ll try topping up my credit in Mein O₂ and see if I can then send SMS or use data while connected to Airtel.

Just to confirm. Once I add enough credit (say 10-20 Euros), roaming should work automatically, right? Or do I need to change any additional setting in Mein O₂?

Thanks again for your quick response!

Yes, but your credit will disappear very quickly because it's far too expensive.

Thanks a lot, @Bumer! You were absolutely right. The credit gets used up extremely quickly.

For mobile data use something local.
