Hi everyone,

I have received a router from o2 which works but I’d like to use my own cable router. I know my own router works fine as it actually worked the first time I connected it. But I think o2 noticed it was not their router and they started blocking it. Now, when I try with my own router, I get a message from Vodafone / o2 that my router is not recognized and that I need to call support. (“leider wurde Ihr Endgerät nicht erkannt..”). I did call support a few times now, giving them the MAC address of the router, but it never worked.. I tried waiting a few hours, restarted the router, same result...

I’m trying to understand what else I can try? I know that o2 is blocking access to my own router somehow as it’s otherwise working fine. (it even says I’m connected to the internet in the router UI)

Appreciate any help.

Moin Moin,

it is important that your cable router is a free one and not an old provider router.

O2 has to assign the MAC to your account. That should be possible in my o2.

If it is a free router that it could be a problem if you use the router with vodafone.

I look like vodafone has problems to remove your mac address.

It could help to call vodafone to remove the MAC.

Hi @schluej, good point, I didn’t think that it could be vodafone blocking the device. I’ll reach out to them.

Thanks!

btw - DOCSIS 3.1 is required for O2 cable. The router schould meet this specification!

@Klaus_VoIP ok thanks. My modem is Compal CH7485E with DOCSIS 3.0. That’s a bit frustrating because it worked fine the first time I connected it until I guess o2 realized my modem was not meeting the requirements and now it’s blocked. I wish I had never restarted my device when it was working fine…

Maybe from a user experience perspective it would be helpful to mention these DOCSIS requirements somewhere on the “vertrag verwalten” page where I have the option to enter the MAC address of my router just to clarify not all cable routers are compatible.

Hi @kyusss ,
welcome to our community.
Thank you for your feedback, which we are happy to pass on.
In general, if you or whoever else comes across this post is unsure if a router is compatible, feel free to contact us so we can clear up any ambiguities.
Kind regards
Larissa
