Hello, I have O2 my Home L contract. I try opening certain ports via port forwarding to be able to connect to games from PC using Steam, EA Games, Rockstar Games, etc. However it doesnt work at all. I cannot even connect or I can connect but the performance and ping sucks,  and I get disconnected and so on.

I am using o2 box 6742 router.

I already assigned a fix IP address to my pc.

I activated portforfarding for both IPv4 and IPv6.

UPnP portforwardings are also activated.

Does anyone know how can I stop having these issues and configure ports properly? I can connect and play without any problem via my mobile internet so I  feel that o2 block or throttle my connection for some reason.. How can we overcome this?

May be there is a problem with your DSL connection…

Try to use the O2 App. and/or contact the hotline.

Hallo @sylangear ,

welcome to the o2 Community 💙.

Generally you shouldn’t really need to do any specific configuring to be able to connect to Steam or similar with a DSL connection. Do you also have any issues using certain webpages or just these services? I’d advise to try a factory reset of the router and if the problem persists afterwards, then please contact our technical department and report an issue with your connection.

Best regards, Sven

Hello thanks for your answer. Ive already tried to reset my router.. that doesn't help at all. I had no issues while surfin on internet. The problem only exists when I run Steam/an online game... what I realized is that the game forces to interrupt my router connection. When the game running on background, i cannot connect to router so internet. As soon as I closed the game, everything backs normal again..

Ethernet connection through LAN is also working well. The problem should be the configuration of router. Can you please help me to find right configs?

Buy a FRITZ!Box 7530 (AX). The 6742 is not for you propose.

And with FRITZ!Box you could check the iNet quality.

Hmm may I ask why do you think o2 box 6742 is not sufficient?

I can consider buying a new router but Im not sure if this will directly solve this issue.

Hey @sylangear,

Presumably @schluej  implies that the connection and the possibilities are more extensive with a Fritzbox. Perhaps schluej can comment on this again? :)

Greetings,
Flo

Okay I have solved this problem. I have changed the connection encryption to WPA-3 and assigned internet connection to a specific wifi channel (it was automatic by default) I selected channel 40.

Now it works without a problem. Even port forwarding is not neccessary

I recommend to try this if you have the similar problem

@sylangear Thanks for your feedback here and great that you were able to find the solution yourself and post it here.

You will certainly be able to help other users with the same problem here. 💙

Kind regards

Steffen
