Dear O2,

Initially, I wanted to have Homespot at my home for internet, but I do not have coverage in my area. However, I am using my friend's O2 Homespot (I believe she bought it in Berlin). Since I do not want any cable internet, I am looking for portable options like a data SIM (that can be used in a Wi-Fi router) for my home use. Please help me.

Many thanks,

Manisha

Hi @newamanesa,

welcome in our o2 community 💙

I am not sure if I totally understand your question, but the option to get a datacard which you can use in your Homespot changes with different tariffs.

Could you tell me, which tariff you have got? Then we can check what it would cost to order and use a datacard 😄

Best regards,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Thank your reply. Currently, I have an O2 Mobile XL plan with 280 GB of data. I am looking for a flexible internet solution similar to HomeSpot for my home internet, specifically for use with my laptop. However, I checked the O2 website, and HomeSpot does not cover my current address.

Regards,
Manisha

Hello @newamanesa ,

the avaiability of the HomeSpot is limited by several factors, not just the raw coverage for an area. Personally I’d always recommend a normal DSL, cable or fiber connection for home usage, unless you are only using the internet at home very, very sparsely. But if you are looking at a solution that involves a mobile connection then the question is how much monthly volume you think you are going to need. Generally nothing is stopping you from using the simcard of a contract in a router instead of a smart phone, if that's what you want to do.

Kind regards, Sven

Hello,

My question is - Can i use my simcard currently using in my phone to a wifi router directly ?

Thank you

Dear O2,

I am experiencing a similar issue. Currently, I have an O2 Mobile XL plan with 280 GB of data for my mobile phone. I am looking for a flexible internet solution similar to HomeSpot for my home internet, specifically for use with my laptop. However, I checked the O2 website, and HomeSpot does not cover my current address. Can I still use the Datentarife von o2: Günstige Tarife für Tablets & Gadgets (o2online.de) with another Wi-Fi router?

For your information, my friend used HomeSpot 2 LTE at my current address, and it worked fine (she purchased this package in Berlin).

Please advise.

Best regards,

Yes, why not? 😉

Hello @newamanesa ,

you can just swap the card over to a router instead, you are of course still operating within the constraints of your contract when it comes to data volume and potentially getting throttled once that is used up.

Hello @Melvin743.,

since a few days have already gone by, did you reciebve all the information you need to continue on with using an o2 Homespot? :-)

If there are any questions open after the suggestions you recieved feel free to ask :-)

Regards,

Lars

Hi @Melvin743. ,

thanks for your interest in our HomeSpot!
Yes, you`ll need a SIM-Card for the HomeSpot. It can either be your exisiting SIM-Card or, if your tariffs includes that feature, a Multicard or Datacard variant of that contract.
Can you name your existing contract? We’ll gladly checkt if the option for multicards is included.
We also have different data plans in store (not for free, I’m afraid), please take a look at our different offers here:

Hello @newamanesa,

I attached youtr last qiuestion to the already existing topic since it started getting a little bit confusing with all the different threads and questions regarind the same topic :-)

A simple solution would be to activate a second SIM card in your tariff, it would be EUR 39,99 activation fee and monthly costs of EUR 4,99 - you could use the SIM card in an additional device of your liking :-)

Lars

Dear o2,

Thank you for the cooperation. I've been using a 400 GB data card for the past two weeks, offered at €19.99 per month through my O2 customer deal.
